I travel on a route weekly, always at the same day/time.
Sometimes it has a modern aircraft with individual touch screen in flight entertainment, other times it has older aircraft with the overhead screens and nothing shown that interests me.
Is there any way that I can find out in advance which it will be so that I can make sure to charge my ipad?

Based on your question (but without knowing the route), I am guessing you are referring to the B738's.

Unfortunately, QF does not seperate the 738s with new IFE from those with the overhead IFE and treated them as one common 'pool' nor allocate them to specific routes. There is no way one can check whether you get an aircraft with the new IFE or the overhead IFE unless you asks someone who has access to QF's fleet management system.
