What to wear in J class

Mrs Lime & self wear smart casual, me with jacket, light comfy slacks and shoes easy to remove and put back on, and her a cardigan, skirt and nice top, but as said some just look like they are going to the beach.

Personally, it's all about being comfortable. On long haul flights you may end up sleeping in those clothes depending on the availability of PJs, so I prefer to be as comfortable as possible. I also always have a warm jacket as planes, airports, and hotels are sometimes freezing even in summer. My boss always travels in shorts and a t-shirt so do what ever suits.

I love it when you then connect on from LHR in your comfortable clothes sitting in 1A on BA between the suits who look at you like you're from another planet

Try to bring some class back into travel again.:D

Thanks. That's what I'm trying to do. Or pretend anyway. As a Chippendale boy who regrets the demise of Bay 13, the Outer and the Hill, I'm pretty far from classy. But good at pretending. :)

Something comfortable really. I try to not look like coming straight out of the gym so maybe not trackies, singlets and runners but find nothing wrong with Jeans, some comfortable Adidas and a T-shirt. I tend to start my travel with fresh clothes, then change into the airline PJs (or bring some of my old ones from previous flights if the current airline doesn't offer any) as soon as the fasten your seatbelt sign is off and vise versa prior to landing.

This way, your actual clothes are hardly worn when you arrive and find out that your luggage is delayed/connecting flight missed/hotel room not ready. Just have some fresh undies and socks in your hand luggage- you never know!

Agree with Princess Fiona.

Loose Jeans and Polo top for me (slight class upgrade over a tshirt).

Flying QF I used to wait till second leg to change into QF PJ's but have recently started doing after dinner on the first leg ( despite the shame).

For this mornings flight to SIN in J on EY I will be wearing Nike golf trousers and a polo top and slip on shoes. No PJs required and looking forward to the lunch

Well Blinky, Florence and I always dress nicely for flights whichever class we are travelling. We don't really care how our clothes feel; it's how we like to look.

This is a (semi) serious question.

My wife and are travelling to Europe courtesy of Velocity Rewards (Etihad) in J class return next March. The last time we went there it was on Premium Economy, and I had no qualms about wearing comfy tracky dacks. But now?

So what is the forum consensus on appropriate J class travel wear?

Be comfortable, yes. But many would not be seen dead travelling like that. Give your trip a lift from the start by wearing smart casual, with a coat for the cold weather when you arrive. You will be amazed at how good it makes you feel!

I usually travel J (and occasionally F by upgrade) but I have found over the years that the airlines have lowered expectations on standards of dress, except for offensive T-shirts and clothing that results (in their opinion) in over exposure. In QF First lounge recently I noted how many people were actually wearing thongs (flip flops for those who prefer) !! I find that if you look a little more like you belong, you are treated accordingly so I wear jeans, a casual long sleeve shirt and always a dressy jacket, the kind with the gold buttons. The jacket otherwise spends most of its life on a hanger either in an aircraft or at home. On board the QF PJ's are the go. Just be comfortable and enjoy the experience.

My other half made me purchase what she calls a flying jacket, something that looks smart, at least if the FAs offer to hang jackets, they should at least look smart (rather than claim your jacket by saying it is that one - the one which looks the oldest and most faded). I fly US domestic F much of the time, apart from the jacket, usually I wear what I want, don't care what others think, can look a little strange amongst all the suits on a Monday morning MIA-JFK

The good thing about the yanks is that the airline staff are more likely to judge you by your FF status rather than dress sense.

I always dress "Smart, Comfortable, Casual" flying in "Cattle Class" it pays off...

Once on a Qantas flight going to LAX whilst boarding in BNE, I noticed one of the FA pouring Champagne and as I passed the remark to him " Oh You Shouldnt have done this for me" and smiled as I walked pass enroute to my Cattle Class seating... once settled and organised the FA came up and said " Oh Madam here is your Complimentary Glass of Champagne- please enjoy your flight".. well can you imagine I was the only passenger in that whole section sitting back and enjoying a nice glass of Champers and feeling very chuffed for an old "Chickey Babe" 70 plus years young.... LOL.:)

Wear something with stretch, there's nothing worse than tryining to unplug a wedgie when you are lying down on a narrow airline bed......

Regardless of the cabin class I always dress for comfort, I have a "default" outfit of loose fitting cotton pants and a lite cotton t-shirt, has served me well on my last two long haul flites from Perth to Europe (once in Premium Economy and the other in Business) I always take my shoes off and put on the socks they give you.
From what I have observed, people wear all manner of clothes but it's mainly quite casual and for comfort.
