What to do - 8 hour delay to QF15 announced 5 mins after clearing customs.

Glad they allowed her to return landside. That is a long time to force someone to stay airside with limited facilities.

Now to hope they sort out connections so at least she can reach the destination by midnight. Apparently seemed quite disinterested in trying to get her onto the direct LAX to Kansas City flight with Alaska Airlines. Fear they will stick with the original routing LAX-DFW-MCI and enforce an overnight in DFW. Almost nullifies the value of the conference.

No butterfly garden, no airside pool, no funky bars, no transit hotel, spartan & bland food & shopping offerings, overpriced parking.. Etc..etc
That's right, send the oldest airplanes & lacklustre service to match for BNE.. & I guess the QF engineer has been reduced to 3 days a week as an enhancement..
I suspect a new crew will have to be brought in as well.
Should be a positive outcome eventually..

if it was PER most (FIFO's) would all be in the QP - and that could end up a bit untidy. ;)

Aren't the refurbished ER planes going between BNE and LAX?

Are they not the youngest of the 747 fleet?

Not always, a four class bird ran a trip already this month, in this case it was the boxing kangaroo, must have had a knock out bout!

So apparently qf15 has landed in LAX. How did this turn out with the connections?

Well she finally reached LAX nearly 8 hours late. Qantas re-booked her on a direct Delta Airlines flight to Kansas City arriving at midnight. Guess we'll need to make an original routing claim to collect her status credits for the two lost AA legs.

Again, the boxing kangaroo is one of the youngest RR jumbos isn't she?

Looks like the BNE-LAX flight on 7th October was operated by OJU. Which also operated the delayed SIN-BNE flight on 5th October.

She is the youngest of the non ERs, but QF15 gets a mix of aircraft with around 40% of the time its the non refurbished ones, which is a long way from saying its operated by ERs which of course are the youngsters! Now if you were heading to FRA or NRT, then expect the 24 year old OJA!

Without checking TQS, I was under the impression that the ERs were a firm part of the QF15/16 rotation as that was the first route mentioned by QF

During the mods yes, now they are more widely spread across the routes.

Slightly OT..
Mmm the QF21/22 - SYD/NRT/SYD must be one of the oldest birds..24 years?? Gosh. Though the seats are of reasonable comfort for the upgrades ?.
One of the crew as a regular on this sector mentioned that the aircraft often changes, & thus there is no replication of seat configuration, so seat selection layout would not be guaranteed. :(

Individual aircraft are not dedicated to a specific route that is operated by a particular type of aircraft. So QF21/22 could be operated by any of the 747-400 aircraft. Since its sold as 3-class, it could be operated by any of the 3 or 4 class aircraft. While its unlikely to see the -ER models very often, they certainly could be used sometimes. So yes, sometimes it may get the oldest aircraft of the 747 fleet, but other days it could get the "younger" siblings.

Considering their age... The mature 'birds" are still holding up well.. & more spacious & comforting than the A330s, so a preferable option for me (at times) than JQ OOL/NRT.
