What is the statute of limitations on “never again”?

Not at all, I have no issues flying MH.

It’s SCAT Airlines in Kazakhstan. They didn’t deice the plane when we took off in the middle of winter with a thick layer of ice on both wings.
Sounds like something you would expect from an ex-Soviet place.

Jetstar f'ed me majorly about 5 years ago. I said never again then and have held to that. I guarantee that I will never fly that airline ever again.
I'm in the "you have to be JQing club" too - much to my regret I booked a MEL-DPS return (it was back in the days when QF mainline had pulled out of flying to Bali) - and it was a disaster. Outbound leg was four hours late departing as no crew had actually been rostered for the flight and so they had to fly crew down from SYD etc to crew the flight. For reasons we were never told the return leg had no food or drinking water and so after we boarded we all had to get off the plane and go and buy our food and drinks for the flight - and being a JQ flight most of them bought drinks other than water - like bottles of Talisker - and so you can imagine what the flight was like.

I blame Air new Zealand's asset stripping for the Ansett collapse which saw me lose a RTW award (which included no Ansett flights so could have been honoured) and a lot of points. I swore then I would never pay to fly Air New Zealand again and I haven't. The one Air New Zealand flight I took approx 13 years later was employer funded (so not me choosing to give them business).

My grudge with them holds (23 years),
I am in awe of your dedication !

I haven't had a reason to say 'Never Again' to an airline, though VA tried their best a few times with a bit of a bad run in 2018/19.

First instance was late 2018 when I spent over an hour in the bag drop queue at SYD as VA only had 4 bag drop counters open, and the staff seemed more focused on their personal conversations.

The following flight was an ADL-MEL flight where I had a broken seat and got admonished by a cabin crew member because it wouldn't return to the upright position.

The following flight was MEL-SYD, which I successfully bid on a business class upgrade, which in hindsight was a bit of a regretful purchase. The plane had previously come in from PER, and the PER-MEL drinks menus were still in the seat back. The crew seemed reluctant to fulfil the drinks service, then nearly forgot to do the meal service, before handing us out pies.

Given that there isn't much variety in choice of airlines, it's hard to say 'Never Again', and I've flown several times on VA since, where the service was much better, so the above was more just a bad run I had than anything else.

I have never had an experience that made me say "never again". As others have said, there is an intermediate step where you say NFTF (not for the foreseeable).

EasyJet was in the "just bearable" category for a flight KRK-LGW, so is definitely in the NFTF category (i.e. unless the only option).

In our case there is a do not fly list, but more from our personal risk assessment than from actual experience with the airline. And there are some on the "do not fly" as in no longer in business, such as Air Berlin,

The worst long haul flight ever was on QF, but we avoid them based on price as much as quality (that is we would fly if the price was right despite the variable levels of service - but the price never is right).

An interesting topic.

What's probably somewhat interesting in this is a small fraction of people may have said, "never again" in the face of airlines doing illegal or immoral things. For example, the recent slew of whatnots that Qantas has been involved in, or Qatar's immoral searching of females incident. I remember when QF-EK first announced their tie up many years ago that a lot here said it was a monumental mistake due to UAE's no pork, anti-Israel and poor human rights record.

Even safety incidents from ages ago that people remember - SQ in Taipei, NZ in Antarctica - are quickly forgotten, though I'm sure at the time some people "vowed never to fly them again".

Suffice to say, I think more people are in the lost opportunity column of airlines for reasons that don't include the company committing large scale illegal, immoral or unsafe acts.

So how long does a "never again" last? Typically not too long. Does it follow then that most of us are spineless hypocrites?

Well, for me, the Qatar incident means I have not and will not ever consider flying with them, even if the price was best out there.
(And yes, I realise that the logical extension of this is that I should technically avoid every company and country as I don't believe any country is clean when it comes to human rights violations,)

I don't think that any country can be put on a pedestal at the moment for having an exemplary human rights record, so unfortunately we are all in a way left with making choices that enable us to continue life but at the same time not rewarding those that have crossed a big red line. To me the Qatar incident was a big red line that they crossed, but fortunately there are options which means that I don't need to fly Qatar - which is probably a good thing as the earn rate for QFF SC's etc when flying Qatar is pretty terrible.

I've actively avoided BA Club World for about 14 years, albeit easier since they stopped flying to BKK.

I don't think I have any airline where I feel "never again", but there are many on the "never ever"; can't really name them but if they "feel" dodgy then best to avoid (assuming you have an alternate for your travels).

I certainly have hotels in my never again bucket but then it's generally easy to find an alternate.

So UA or Y AU<--->USA never again?
Many pax now have a good opinion of UA wide body long business class.
2024 is not 1999 (25 years ago but not 37 years ago)
But the FA's you meet in 1999 may still be on the route as USA<--->AU is a prime (~easy) route for FA's

So 1 bad incident make a decision for life? That is not logical
Do you have verifiable data for "constantly cancelling flights"?

For my common AU<--->NZ (narrow body) & NZ domestic fights (Y) find JQ better than NZ. Better on time reliability and better schedules. Do pay for seat seat on JQ & NZ. My usual AU<-->NZ route does not have wide body.
Yep, jump onto any ski forum and you will likely find a thread on why not to travel with Air Canada.

A friend used to book through them and she has had four flights (trips) to go skiing and never taken her original planned flight (she is slow to change).

Personally I have flown them twice to and from and had the most uncomfortable flight and poor service. I’m just not interested supporting this type of business

As a 12 year old migrating to Australia in 1984 on board MH123 747 I said to myself never again! It was 30 years later that I flew them and I would do it again. Perhaps the difference being as a 12 year flying Y and a 42 year old flying J and those satay sticks! JQ still remains on the never ever, have flown them just once since they commenced.

Emirates.......never again to the point that I told the company I work for, if they EVER book me an Emirates flight again, I will hand in my notice there and then. Last year I was flying from Brisbane-Dubai-Oslo. the aircraft went tech when ready to push back, ALL the PAX were kept on the aircraft for 6 hour 40 mins, and denied the ability to leave the a/c (I get it, they don't want the PAX vanishing in the terminal). After the 6 hour 40. min delay and knowingly breaking the crews flight and duty limitations (both cabin crew and flight crew), the captain elected to push back and fly to Dubai putting all on board at risk.

I haven't got them on the banned list but definitely on the "not if I can get there another way list" after a couple of safety/health issues on previous flights with EK.
