Just wondering what this "Special elite customer service telephone line" is and when I would use it (as a Gold member).

For example - can they access rooms for me that are showing as sold out or offer any further discount than the hotel website?

Its just a tiered access to the call centre, presumably giving you access to more experienced staff. Getting any benefits beyond whats published is unlikely.
