What is the best business class seat

I am about to book a rtn QF award ticket from Sydney to San Francisco in business class (given the max days to do so), and I suspect some business seats are better located than others for such things as noise, passenger movement etc. I have been told that seats 16A & B upstairs are supposed to be good, and that seats 23A & B downstairs are good. Although this is my 14th trip to USA it is my first trip in business class, and I was fortunate to fly 1st class using my Ansett points in 2001 (they went bust when I was over there, but still returned in seat 3A). This is only my second post at this site, and information I have learned about other issues relevant to me has been considerable, so any assistance on this present subject would be grateful. have a look at www.seatguru.com and choose the airlines you are flying with to see what others think about various seats in business class.

as with everything, all will have their ideas and feelings regarding seats.

i personally like, upstairs window in the middle area. row 16 is good because of the emergency door.

Given that route will be operated by 3-class 744 aircraft, my favourite business class seat on that aircraft is 23F when travelling alone. If travelling with someone else, I would be happy with 23AB or 23JK.

Row 16 is good in the sense that there is no seat or bulkhead in front. However, there is little overhead locker space, the side lockers under the windows are obviously not available at the emergency exit doors (16A has almost no access to side locker, while 16K has ok access). Since there is no seat in front you also don't get the shoe storage or water bottle storage.

Since QF has not operated into SFO for many years, I don't know which door they will use to exit the aircraft at that port. At LAX they always use the second door (behind row 26), which at SYD they use the forward door (in front of row 23). So that may have some bearing depending on how quickly you can get off the aircraft and into the immigration queues.

But with the Skybeds, it does not make a huge difference. My preference is to get an aisle seat D or F and I am not very concerned about the row. But do note that the Skybed seats at the bulkhead rows (row 23, 29 and row 11) and the upper deck exit row (row 11) have the IFE screen located in the arm rest, so those seats do not have the document storage in the armrest. The seats themselves are exactly the same (ie width) as the other Skybeds in the aircraft. Note that the A330 Skybed seats, and the Skybeds in rows 1-5 of the 2-class 744 aircraft have slightly narrower arm rests due to the reduced cabin width.

I am not into forums too much because of some of the silly comments and this is the first forum I have registered with, but I must say the information I have obtained from this discussion board has been huge. Thanks again, and as I will be travelling alone I think downstairs in business class is the way for me to go.
