What is ONT like as an LAX alternative?

For a conference in October I will be making a lazy Sunday SC run if available between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

On aa.com I can see first class LAX-LAS direct flights for $770 (40SC) and ONT to LAS via PHX on two different flight numbers for 40 + 40 SC

What is the ONT experience going to be like? I don't see any AA lounges for a QF Gold.

Any comments on the transport options from Downtown to ONT instead of LAX?

Have you considered going from SNA? Unlike ONT, it has an Admirals Club, and it's easy to get to being near Disneyland.

(I flew from SNA to SEA a couple of years ago. Soooo much easier than LAX.)

I used ONT back in the day. First fares were relatively inexpensive.

It's a quiet airport and yes, with no lounges.

There are a few chain hotels nearby; at night I'd hear the distinctive sounds of freight trains; there a huge mashalling yard/stable to the south of the airport.

I'll occasionally recognise ONT's distinctive white pole structure in airport scenes for movies/TV shows.

It's biggest issue was the cost of getting between there and LAX with super shuttles at USD90+ along with tip. I've actually flown LAX-xDFW-ONT.

If you can make SNA work, for instance Sunday 11/10 AS has SNA-STS-LAS $467 USD
40 + 40 SC's

Or LAX-SFO-LAS $434 USD, again 40 + 40 SC's

( Alaska lounges at both LAX & SFO )
