I have used National over in the USA.
Getting all inclusive cheaper using Dollar.....any issues?

I've used them in HNL and LAX several times. Service at LAX is poor. Long lines, rude staff, watch very closely for up sells that you're not even told about (personal property insurance etc). HNL was better but they push very hard for extras.

Cars have always been older (40k-ish miles) and have some wear but they've always run ok.

Drop off is usually easy, just dump it at lax and get on the bus to the terminal. terminal busses seem less frequent (I watched almost 10 hertz busses go by at lax before the dollar one came).

I'm using Hertz in MSY shortly only as they're just a little more expensive and don't force you to prepay fuel

In April 2010, Hertz and Dollar-Thrifty Automotive Group announced an agreement under which Hertz was to acquire Dollar-Thrifty for a purchase price of US$41.00 per share, subject to shareholder approval, in a mix of cash and Hertz common stock.[SUP][23][/SUP] Dollar-Thrifty investors in Tulsa, Oklahoma rejected this US$1.44 billion bid from Hertz on September 30, 2010.[SUP][24][/SUP] Dollar-Thrifty subsequently announced on October 12, 2011 that it had taken itself off the market because it did not receive any proposals that would pass antitrust review.[SUP][25][/SUP] On August 28, 2012, Hertz announced for the second time its intention to acquire Dollar-Thrifty, subject to FTC approval, in this case for US$2.3 billion.[SUP][26][/SUP] This merger would yield combined annual sales of US$10.2 billion.[SUP][3][/SUP] The deal was concluded in November 2012 and resulted in a combined 10,400 locations in approximately 150 countries.

They are the rental car equivalent of Jetstar. Which may be a good or bad thing depending on what your expectations are.

Interesting that they still force you to prepay for fuel at LAX.
I had always used Dollar-good seniors rates and service had been good until 1 day at LAX.Normally I went to the ordinary line as I used an US number for my discount. Then at LAX they first made me use the International line with just 1 agent and a huge line.forced me to prepay a full tank for a 1 day rental then made me pay more for insurance when through the AARP it was included.Never used them again.
I emailed the Californian Attorney General(all officials in the US make it easy for you to contact).Got a personal reply with follow up emails where the AG called the behaviour a scam.eventually got a grovelling reply from Dollar's CA manager apologising but no compensation.

Well I just booked 5X car hire via carhire3000.com and spoke to there agent on the phone. No Reward points though!
I have prepaid and just front up with drivers licence, voucher but note I have to have my trusty 28degrees card!
They can try and up sell me, pickup is Hawaii islands and Miami.....told I have until 4th May to cancel and full refund.
Had issues with Alamo in LAX and putting pay for return tank of fuel....got it taken off.
National in Canada was no issues...other than it was a Brand new Focus Titanium and the staff new nothing about the gadgets on it.

I believe they enforce the prepaid fuel for online prepaid vouchers, however from what I understand if you book directly with dollar then you can return it full. I'd imagine it'll take a fight though.

I use cheap-car-rental.com for dollar bookings. For a 3 day rental in New Orleans, I found direct from Hertz was only about $30 more (they had a special on) so I went with that.

Both I believe. Although I only pushed the point at LAX (and lost) when I had a 3 day rental.

I may have been the douce driving a Crown Victoria in "L" on the Santa Monica freeway burning the tank up...
