What I ate today - the food thread

A new restaurant for lunch today though it is owned by the fellow that has the Tziki Bar. Much larger restaurant and lots of parking at Kawana Shopping Plaza. Just across the road Motto Motto that has been mentioned on here
Slightly more different menu to the other two in the group. Has Coffin Bar oysters and Boston Bay mussels
Wee started by sharing the lamb ribs. Even better than usual.

Mains: Miso glazed pumpkin wedge | tomato, green capsicum, eschalot and quinoa salad | hummus

IMG_6937.jpeg

Decent portion size. The pumpkin was well done. Slightly sweet with savoury notes here and there from the miso. The quinoa salad was amazing. The eschalot mixed thru the salad gave a nice kick. The green capsicum gave a nice crunch and bite. The hummus rounded the dish. Should’ve asked for chilli. But the discussions are ping the table were very interesting that I forgot to ask for chilli.

Side salad: Winter pear salad | red coral lettuce | dried cranberries | candied walnuts | pickled Spanish onion

IMG_6936.jpeg

First impressions - the candied walnut was too sweet for my liking .. especially, when paired with the pumpkin. The cranberries were really good. Lettuce gave slight bitterness. Picked onions were ok …. Next time, I’d like to have salad with feta … felt like I could use some feta creaminess and saltiness …

Dessert: Dark chocolate fondant | strawberry coulis | Baileys ice cream.

IMG_6938.jpegIMG_6939.jpeg

Amazing dish! Oozing chocolate sauce, served warm, ice cream not too sweet, not overly frozen - slightly melted to be able to scoop and eat along with the fondant … really good dish. Will order again.

There was live music at the venue - 2x performers on the guitar - I was able to recognise 2 songs. The crowd enjoyed the music. IMG_6931.jpeg

Bathrooms had actual hand towels 🤯

OWE MH Satellite Lounge, KUL.

Got off MH183 MAA-KUL and wanted a cup of tea - so, started with a tall glass of Teh Tarikh. Kept this as the bevy during meal service also.

IMG_6853.jpeg
Followed by pomegranate and feta salad.

IMG_6858.jpeg

Followed by the herb soup (only vego main option) - with a side of chilli (as always)

My travel partner tried the chicken Laksa.

IMG_6871.jpeg

Ordered via the iPad at the table service. Excellent and attentive service.

The laksa took a bit of time to arrive - wait staff explained that they ran out of laksa and they were halfway thru making a fresh batch so had to wait for the cooking to be finished before they can serve. And my travel partner acknowledged that the dish was very fresh - from stove to service :)

This is the first time my travel partner is using a lounge and they were thoroughly impressed with the food, service and the general vibe of the place. I’m glad they got to enjoy the lounge.

This lounge is my go to at KUL. Sometimes, when I feel like I wanna graze the buffet - I ask the lounge staff to let me thru the door into the OWS part of the lounge. The staff always oblige.

Brekkie at VB World, Chennai

Sothi idly.

IMG_6653.jpeg

According to the Internet - Sothi, also spelled sodhi or sodhi kuzhambu) is a traditional, mild coconut milk-based curry or gravy that originated in Sri Lanka and is also very popular in South Indian (Tamil) and Malaysian cuisine.

According to the internet - Idli is a traditional, savoury South Indian breakfast cake. It is round, fluffy, and steamed, made from a fermented batter of black lentils (urad dal) and rice.

This was a top dish that I tried for the very first time last month. I have tried both Sothi and Idli separately, but never together.

The idli has soaked the richness of the Sothi and was melting in the mouth. Will definitely try again.

Followed by strong filter coffee served in a traditional brass tumbler set. Yummm 😋

Brekkie at Akshayam, Chennai.

Breakfast combo - combination dish with a verity of traditional brekkie dishes.

From top left - vadacurry (savoury), semolina cake (sweet), potato curry (savoury), Pongal (rice and lentils, savoury), sambhar (savoury), dosa (savoury pancake), vada (savoury donut), idli (steamed rice and lentils cake), coconut chutney and chilli chutney.

IMG_6651.jpeg

A very good introductory meal to South Indian Tamil breakfast - if you’d like to sample a few brekkie items, this is a good option.

The meal itself was good. Personally, It was bit much food for brekkie though …

QF67 SYD-BLR Y meal service …

Peas pulao, naan bread and panner curry. Lunch service post take off. 6/10.

IMG_6617.jpeg

Naan bread was good, so was the pulao. Panner curry was alright, may not avail second helping, if offered.

Followed by masala tea and Murray street ice cream. Did ask for and was offered a second helping of the ice cream :)

IMG_6618.jpeg

Mixed veg korma and cauliflower - 2 hours prior landing.

IMG_6627.jpeg

That korma - hit. the. spot 😍 cauliflower was so-so. The focaccia did not belong in this platter (why QF offer Italian herb focaccia with Indian cuisine - I’ll never understand) …

Dessert was Indian style ladoo - a’ight …
