What I ate today - the food thread

OK cheese in inappropriate places saga continues, plastic cheese on pizza was bad enough, for tonight’s lounge offerings we have………Swiss cheese sushi
Yeah Swiss cheese (presumably Emmental) sushi is a no go.

Maybe just another in a long line of cheese on anything because, well.... cheese. Asians (especially Chinese) have a fascination with cheese which Westerners find most unusual. The fact we have Swiss cheese here and not Kraft plastic or American plastic is quite profound.

Just thought I would correct the cheese issue with breakfast:

Emmental has been my favorite since I was a kid and had a best friend who’s parents were German/swiss and for a significant time was very hard to get in Australia owing to a prohibition on cheese that is made with non pasteurised milk, so I take any opportunity I can to eat it.

What I will not be eating today

I suppose when you call your food business Foodary you have some issues.

Who in their right mind thought this was a good idea

Well, we do have spaghetti on toast... (or did, as it seems a bit old fashioned now).

It could be an ingenious way to sell pasta as you can eat the lid, then go at the pasta then eat the bowl. Or if you don't have a fork, now you have a way to eat said spaghetti without a fork.

I dunno... help me out here. 🙂

Ramadan Pappa Thali at Papparich Canberra CBD.

Was walking past this restaurant last week and noticed the poster for Ramadan thali. Made plans to visit this place a couple of times, but both times isolated thunderstorms intervened. Not today.

Went with the vego option (no surprises there) 😂

Came with 2x rotis, veg mutton curry, lentil curry (dhal), 1x onion pakora, pappadums, raita and onion-cucumber salad. Optional add-on was Biriyani rice for $3 extra. Quite generous portion size for $29.90 (at least by Canberra standards) lol.

The roti (prata/parotta) was good but served lukewarm. This was a general trend in the platter - dishes were served lukewarm, which was bit of a downer for me. Roti prata is meant to be served piping hot for it to be enjoyed.

The veg mutton curry and dhal were the star for me. The dhal was very traditionally Malaysian-Tamil. The veg mutton had the nice tanginess and spice to it. If no other dishes were served and it was just dhal and curry, I’d enjoy it with hot rice and call it a meal. Really enjoyed both dishes. Same sentiments about the dishes being lukewarm applies here too.

The onion and cucumber salad was palate cleanser when switching between the dhal, curry and biriyani rice.

Raita was another star of this platter. Enjoyed it with the biriyani.

I also ordered a Kopi Chum Milo (iced). I was told this is coffee, tea and Milo mixed in a drink served on ice. I couldn’t taste the tea, but could taste the coffee and Milo. I asked mine with less ice. In hindsight though, this drink needs ice, otherwise it wasn’t hitting the spot.

Overall for me this platter was 6/10. I’d order it again next year. But if this platter was year around, I’d probably have it once a year or occasionally.

Served on MH flight SYD to KUL. Chicken and beef satay, apple mayonnaise salad with chicken, chicken roulade for main and chocolate Carmel mousse. OK but nothing too exciting.

MH flight KUL to HKG. Smoked duck with pasta salad, lychee chicken with rice and veges and vanilla pannacotta. Again nothing special apart from the smoked duck which was really nice.
