What I ate today - the food thread

Then today after a RiverCat ride to Northshore, a late lunch at Riva.

Absolutely will be back. Really good prices, nice sized meals they were very tasty and a great view (right on the river with a little beach beside it)

Last of the Bombay food comas.

Samrat restaurant. Another Gujarati vegetarian meal. Our hosts suggested the Unlimited thali. Served within a couple of minutes of ordering, with constant top ups of anything you wanted. Sweets included at start (and actually meant to be eaten first or at any time). Three different rice / pulao options came round later.

Waddled out of this place too.

We were not allowed to pay but I think it was approx $10 per person. Bargain for the quality and obvious quantity.

A different city, but the food continues. Zeera Indian cuisine in Pune.


Mix of meat kebabs.

Mutton kebabs on paratha pieces.

Vegetarian starter platter.



Mutton shanks.


Chicken curry.

Appetisers were mind-blowing. Mains pretty good. Randomly placed in a large private dining room with a big table. Had to shout to talk to those opposite!

Ok prices. Enthusiastic staff, albeit lacking some polish. But all good.

Service slow, busy and noisy but cheap and cheerful for us as Seniors.

In a great run of meals, this one has managed to stand out. Reminder of home cooked food from years gone by. Maratha Sanrat, Pune.

Most ordered a range of thalis:

Veg.

Chicken.

Mutton.

As well as fish curry and rice, and fried fish:

I had the seafood thali:

Superb. Fried pomfret, fried prawns, fish curry, unlimited chapati and accompaniments. Best of all top right dish - Bombay duck / bombil. Fried, shredded spiced and dried. . Fiery and delicious. Stinks when cooked so tough to make at home! Good stuff.

Excellent service, Marginally higher prices in comparison to others but really great quality.

Had the spring rolls at Devonport Novotel for lunch and they were so good that I ordered them for dinner

Also had the calamari and a chicken ceasar salad

Haianese chicken and rice on the CX BKK lounge. Very tasty.

Another great meal, though not well captured in pics. Service style and speed too much for me! All served on banana leaf in small portions to begin with

Savya Rasa, a South Indian restaurant in Pune. Lots of different dishes from across regions. Tasty curries and outstanding ‘breads’ in particular.

Nibbles. Cross between crackers and papas.

Some starters.


Light, fluffy and extremely tasty paratha. Cross between traditional parathas, pooris and roti, to me.

Appam. Excellent for soaking up spicy liquid! I also had rice mixed with mango pickle. Awesome combo.
And a prawn and raw mango curry. Excellent.

Didn’t really get other pics until dessert.

Great meal. Somehow we again scored a private room. Terrific service and high quality food.
