What I ate today - the food thread

No photos ... but there used to be this restaurant in Hobart called ... Ethos.
Was about 8 courses of tasting-menu artfully made of mostly local ingredients, purely based on what was available & good on the day.
Seriously awesomesauce, and for around $60 ridiculously good value. Even when it went up to $100 it was ridiculously good value.
Unfortunately it disappeared last year, I presume it was a coughload of work for the chef, designing a menu at the very least weekly.

So instead, what I just ate was banana-bread made from the over-purchased ladyfingers that’d gotten too ripe to eat. Sugary overripe banana goodness makes good banana bread. :)
No photos! Doesn’t count! :(:)

More San Sebastián Pintxo - mussels with spicey tomato sauce and cider:

No photos, but when hubby and I travel to KL we always eat several times at the same restaurant and the exact same meal. Esquire at Sungi Wang Shopping Mall- cashew chicken with drilled chilli, steamed rice, flower buns and iced lemon tea.

For all cheese lovers. In my research today, I came across this gem, describing Royal Navy food in the late 1700s:

“… Navy dried peas, after boiling for hours, rattled like shot in the eating tub. Cheese was a rare treat and the suppliers who adulterated it were virtuosi. Without suspicion of cream, it furnished olfactory clues to kitchen scourings, beeswax, rancid fat, glue and yellow ochre colouring "

Is that pulled beef homemade? It looks amazing! What is it sitting on and fancy sharing the recipe?

Oops. Edit: it was Lamb and I wish I could take the credit. We had it for lunch, then went home and made Margaritas. It was on a pita bread, which should have been served on the side to stop it from going soggy

Looks great but seriously, the fried chips in the yiros does my head in. Having asked both my greek dad in law (92) and mum in law (84) and numerous (and I mean numerous) older aunts and uncles, there was no chips in the yiros back in the old country so why do they do this?

I know, right? I actually enjoyed it more after I took the chips out
