Had 30ml bottles of spirits taken off me at Beijing a week ago for domestic security because it was not cosmetic in nature and liquid rule only allowed to cosmetic products, not spirits.

And then today in sterile area on Guangzhou domestic waiting for a flight, saw this which is a massive water gun or some other toy gun, which kid wanting it drew my attention to it.

Well that's China, isn't it?

Off to OOL from SYD tomorrow. Will be interesting to see what they can manufacture. This will be after my returning a rental car (wonder if Hertz is still systematically defrauding its clients?).

In a previous life I was a security screener at ADL. To answer a few questions in the thread.

When I was there the items that got taken off people got donated to the salvos who would take any of the good stuff like multi tools and sell them.

The LAGS that got taken off people were under the control of customs and they would dispose of them.

Some of the funner/scary things that PAX tried to take as carry on that I have witnessed:

A petrol chainsaw - it was just carried in an ikea bag. He couldn't understand what was wrong with it!
A Sex worker who had a full BDSM kit- including restrants, chains, whips etc.
One of the scariest things was some one who tried to take his shotgun on board.

Upon arrival at LAX several years ago a customs inspector asked me (I'm American) what is that Vegemite for that all the Aussies were carrying. I told him that the stuff is harmless but beware and not to open open any or the smell might knock him out. Hope I didn't offend any Australians!
