What happened to the in-flight entertainment? [content]

Totally Agree the worst in flight entertainment I have come across. I was Platinum with them for 2 years but went back to Qantas last year when they "enhanced" the entertainment options.

I have written so many feedbacks to VA about their lack of content and variety of contents which are poor rating. Not sure who is reading them and taking action. I have since brought my tablet loaded with Netflix programs and catch up on my series.

I honestly wonder how people survived not that long ago where you were lucky with a drop down screen and a re-run of fawlty tours and a pre-recorded edition of the 9 news of the day!

The TV shows in particular have really dropped down in quality over the last year. It’s like they are acquiring only the shows that networks are prepared to give away for free.
They still have a half decent movie selection, but not as much use on the short hops.
But if you want to watch what you like, bring it with you. Same for most airlines.
Now the food, that’s a separate gripe and I’ve given up complaining to VA about that...

They’ve even removed the ability to complete the survey in the inflight entertainment app, which I did regularly to complain about the pathetic low grade choice, particularly tv shows. Seems Virgin don’t care anymore!

Wow, seriously? Well I guess that's one way to stop negative feedback coming in...

It must be what I watch, selection has never been the greatest but generally I watch movies, if you want bad go to the US or Europe and then you realize that Virgin is better.

Qantas are using Alliance charters on flights to and from Mount Isa. Virgin as well. Whilst you still pay the same amount the Alliance do not have the same facilities and no entertainment.
Now just download my Netflix movies and doco's when flying on this route.

I recently flew BNE to DRW & spent quite a lot of time trying to work out what to watch. This was not because there was so much interesting content but instead because there was little of interest to watch.

Like you, I'm also thinking now of downloading my content before boarding.

I'm going to sound like a dinosaur here, but I would love to know how to download a movie from netflix or stan, both of which I have current subscriptions. Could some kind soul open a thread on this please?

I do not fly Virgin. But suffer similar issues with QF. IMHO the IFE should be entertaining and new, no matter how much you fly. It is not exactly hard as a concept. I get so sick of having the same content (on QF) when I board a flight the same month as the last.

With Netflix, open the app on your device and select 'Available to download' (it's under the search tab on the iOS app). From there, you can select any shows/movies you want to download and watch offline. Click the program you want and there is an option next to each episode to download (arrow pointing downwards).

To access downloaded content, open the app and select the 'Downloads' menu option.

I've never used Stan so not sure if/how you can do it on there.

Well I can assure you as a regular traveller of both, VA’s quantity of streaming IFE is well below QF’s and their quality is also way way off as well.

I keep forgetting to arrange our international trips to cross over to the next month, so that at least there may be something new on the return leg. I remember you would get new release movies when flying internationally, but it's all changed now. Virgin are a terrific airline, but their entertainment options are really the weakest among the competitors. I saw a youtube video last night of someone scrolling through Delta's IFE choices. She scrolled. And scrolled. And scrolled. In the end, she was swiping and letting the menu just spin along.
Not sure if it was on a loop, or if there was literally hundreds of movies!

I always bring a book for a couple of magazines to catch up on. I really only watch a movie but wouldn't watch the stuff at hoe why would I do in the air (even if there is nothing else to do), I've studied all the wine bottle labels already!

Well it looks like the IFE content has at least been updated this month. Still a poor range of TV shows but there were some movies of interest.

I have a steady stream of New Yorkers and New Scientists that keep coming through the mailbox. Heavy flying and poor IFE is the only way I can keep up with them :)

To this day I don't understand why people didn't love this and why DJ got rid of it. I thought it was way ahead of its time and almost always worked well .
I believe that it had a low take up rate and contributed to a significant increase in fuel burn. Delta have live TV which I enjoyed whilst travelling east/west. .

The movie selection on my last VA 738 flight via a series of Android screenshots. For a domestic flight, I thought the selection was reasonable (63 movies in total) and up to date.

Yes, it has improved. I filled an a Virgin web survey about 3 weeks ago & pointed the market research company to this thread.

Maybe someone actually read it?
