What happened to the in-flight entertainment? [content]

I just got off a return trip SYD - OOL and the in flight entertainment on the app was woeful! The amount of content is drastically less than before, the quality was also lacking and there was almost no TV shows at all which are much better for a short flight when you can't fit a 2 hour movie in. The TV shows that were offered were mid season (such as from ep 8) and not even from the start, so pointless watching unless you watch the show already.

I have noticed the decline in recent months of the domestic IFE offering compared to previously however this was the worst I have seen it. Has anyone else felt this or am I just being picky?

While seatback was good I don't mind the way its done now as BYOD, my issue is with the lack of content which arguably could happen with seatback anyway, obviously not so much and issue live to air as its regular TV.

I flew Virgin again over the weekend and I have to agree. The range of content was dreadful with nothing of interest to me. Better than nothing, but not by much. I ended up just listening to music.

By comparison, last time I took a QF flight with Q-streaming there was so much interesting content that I couldn't decide what to watch.

Yup, rubbish. Drink enough in the lounge that you pass out on the flight. Most of them are short anyway. Or write that long overdue blog post or something...

Its been getting worse each month for the past year. I now keep a supply of TV shows and a few movies downloaded on Netflix in case I cant find anything else to do.

No you aren’t being picky the offering is very slim on the ground, I gave that exact same feedback at latest VA community forum...

As to why? Can only assume budget cuts?

I've been pretty happy with the A330 entertainment selection on my last few trips, and watched a few movies which I'd been meaning to see for ages:

• The Shape of Water
• Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri
• The Killing of a Sacred Deer
• Last Jedi

There seemed quite a large selection available - is everyone else referring to the wifi BYOD IFE?

I'm more concerned with the turnover rather than the amount. The amount of shows and movies they have is decent enough, the problem is they don't rotate them so anyone who flies even semi-regularly has nothing to watch as they've seen everything

I raised this issue face to face (along with others) with a very senior manager a few years ago. I was lucky enough to be on the same flight as him, for him I'd say he was unlucky he was on the same flight as me.

Is the 737 IFE that is the problem which is pretty bloody much 99% of VAs domestic flights these days.

To this day I don't understand why people didn't love this and why DJ got rid of it. I thought it was way ahead of its time and almost always worked well .

It’s awful, I prefer tv shows for most domestic flights, and the choices have been very limited. Not only are there less choices than before, but as mentioned, they are episode 6-9 of season 7 which is useless.

This said, I find Qantas equally poor. I just load up my iPad now when travelling.

I wish they’d put more box sets on, and a much wider content.
