Flying SYD-DXB-LHR in J on QF1 shortly and when checking my booking and upgrade request, in the required column, where it previously said "Upgrade to First Points: 120 000" it is now showing "-1".

Interested to know if anyone can tell me what that means?

Cheers

I wondered that too. My friend requested an upgrade and it appeared exactly the same way in their account '-1'. It stayed that way all the way until departure (they were unsuccessful).

When are you traveling?

Interesting. I am looking at the same screen for some family members. They are NB, but have a PE->J request on a flight that is still showing F9 A9 J9 C9 D9 I9 at less than T-24. Would be disappointed if they were unsuccessful in those circumstances, given the rest of the flight is pretty light too and EF tells me there are about 40 seats empty in J still.

J9 C9 D9 I9 means there are 9 or more seats available in total, not 40.
Higher buckets include the availability assigned to lower buckets.

Well, ExpertFlyer would disagree with you there.

No. Because the seat map doesn't tell you how many seats have been sold, it just tells you how many have definitely been selected and how many are block to someone with your status from selecting. Someone might have purchased a ticket and not selected a seat.

Not necessarily, a seat map doesn't necessarily correlate to the actual loading of a certain cabin.

Unassigned seats on EF doesn't tell you an awful lot as EF doesn't differentiate between unsold and unallocated seats.

That's fair enough. I've been watching this flight over the last couple of days and noticed no significant change up until close, but I take your point.

But the flight in question being so close, it does look lightly loaded.

More to the point, "J9 C9 D9 I9" means there are a minimum of nine seats they are prepared to sell from any one of those booking classes...

... It does not necessarily mean that there are only 9 seats available.

This is as inferred by dodgeyhack with: " ... means there are 9 or more seats available in total"

For a fuller explanation refer to the thread titled "Understanding Expert flyer".

Getting back on topic, I suspect something is up similar to what MELTraveller mentioned. Flight is at airport control now, and check-in agents said there was no record of an upgrade request. MMB still shows Upgrade as "Requested" and "-1" on the upgrade page. EF map hasn't changed, though bearing in mind all of the above.

I think they're out of luck, even at the airport / gate. Very strange - a simple "Declined" would have sufficed, but that "-1" is looking like a bad sign.

[EDIT] Hmm, I hope it's not that, but not sure if you're WP and haven't heard anything by T-24 - fingers crossed for you drpil!

to be clear... the '-1' was in my friend's booking from the day the upgrade was requested, right through until the time of departure. In my friend's case, the request was made through the call centre.

I have had -1 on my upgrade LAX-MEL a few months back. 2 pax on PNR. Upgrade didnt come through.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

You can verify for certain whether your upgrade did correctly go into the system or not. At T-24, you should see a waitlisted sector for the flight you have put in for an upgrade. It will appear as a duplicate of your confirmed sector.

When an upgrade is confirmed, the original confirmed sector gets deleted and the waitlisted sector becomes confirmed.

If this isn't occurring that means your upgrade request is not being registered and it means QF IT needs a bollocking.
