Am I correct that AA only have First and Economy on these flights? As this is a QF codeshare on AA does it book into First? It seems very cheap if it does.

Total price for this trip: AU$2,546.60

I was on the redeye LAX-IAD in 2007 and it was a 2 class 737.

Generally the booking class for 2 class AA domestic services is A or P class.

If you're on a QF business class ticket using QF codeshare flights, then your booked class will ewither be J,D or I. I'm assuming by the price of this tickets, that it will be I class. QF still sell it as business, however, you'll be seated in the F cabin of the AA aircraft. You will only earn status credits however, for business class, NOT first.

I had a QF cocdeshare on a trip to the US recently. LAX-LAS in I class, netted me 40 SC, I had a seperate ticket on AA (in P class) on LAS-MIA-MCO-JFK which netted me 270 status credits as it was booked into First.

Hope that helps.

From previous experience if a QF codeshare, with QF on BP on AA metal, as Ozvirginuk says,it will be in CDIJ fare class but in First cabin with associated Business SC. If AA on BP, then it will earn at First SC rate and be booked into A,F,P class.

Note, DONE4 J bookings book into First for domestic AA segments

In my experience, it depends on how your booking is structured. If you are booked on an AA flight number, you get first class SCs but if you are booked on a QF code share number, your SCs will be at the business class rate. Usually there is little difference in if any with the cost of booking AA or QF codeshare so I make a point of telling my agent to book the internal US segments as AA rather than QF code share flights.

Another worthwhile thing to know is that if you are on a OW RTW business class fare, you will be thrown into the coach cabin when doing flights within the US - all there in the fine print - I learned from bitter experience (an of course the SCs were for economy).

OW RTW business class fare has always put people into the F cabin (two class a/c). Has this changed?
OW RTW business class rewards fare puts you into coach which is always a trap if you have one paid and one reward ticket.

Was definitely the case for me and it was explained to me that this has always been in the fine print of the OW RTW fare rules.

Definitely not correct, the rules currently read (and always have):

FOR FLIGHTS WHERE FIRST OR BUSINESS
CLASS IS NOT OFFERED OR AVAILABLE
PASSENGER MAY TRAVEL IN A LOWER CLASS IN
THE APPLICABLE BOOKING CODE FOR THAT
LOWER CLASS. THE FARE FOR THE HIGHEST
CLASS USED APPLIES WITHOUT COMPENSATION.
EXCEPT FOR SERVICES WITHIN THE USA WHERE
NO BUSINESS CLASS IS OFFERED BUSINESS
CLASS PASSENGERS MAY BOOK AND TRAVEL IN
FIRST CLASS -A CLASS- SUBJECT TO
AVAILABILITY.
THIS PROVISION DOES NOT
APPLY ON ANY FLIGHT WHERE BUSINESS CLASS
EXISTS BUT IS UNAVAILABLE FOR BOOKING.

I just looked back at my records and was horrified to see that the TRW fare was over 5 years ago - I think that the rules have since changed. Thanks to all for correcting me on this one - the OW RTW is now back for consideration if going to the East Coast of the US and if the price is right. I will otherwise crawl back into my hole!

The oneworld explorer rules have not changed in this respect since at least 2003 and almost certainly earlier.

In 2005 I booked a DONE4 with travel in First class -LAX-DFW-SEA-DFW-ANC-DFW-JFK- (780 SC's there) .

See here for old versions of the rules:
Code:
114N . 1. AA FLIGHTS WITHIN/BETWEEN THE U.S./CA WHERE NO
115N . BUSINESS CLASS IS OFFERED, BUSINESS CLASS
116N . PASSENGERS MAY BOOK AND TRAVEL IN FIRST CLASS
117N . SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY.

Personally I believe that this has been the set up for many years. I did a OW TRW trip in 2003 that had travel in First class and another in 2005.

Point taken. Clearly I was shafted! Sometimes we just have to learn from bitter experience.
