What cheeses me off

This is an interesting observation. I thought it was just me. I am overweight, although I do fit in a seat. But those SQ A350 Y seats were quite uncomfortable that I didn't sleep a good wink when I last flew SIN-BNE. My backside just got more and more painful as the flight went on. I guess if I had fallen deep asleep before a critical point in the pain, it might have been fine. Maybe I should have tried a window seat because at least I would have had a wall to lean on to offset the pressure on my lower back from the seat. I tried cushioning with the provided pillow or rolled up blanket, but that didn't work.

I'm more amazed that your short slim partner also found the seats uncomfortable. Here I was thinking that if I were normal and fit, I would have found the seat just fine.

You don't hear a lot of criticism about SQ even of their Y service, let alone seats, so maybe it's just us?

The squab seemed significantly shorter than usual so I felt I was sitting on the edge of the seat and pushed forward for the whole flight and felt like if it I didn't prop myself with the legs I would fall forward. Recline did not fix the issue. Got zero rest on the flight and very numb backside/ pins & needles.

No :) . I've loathed their long haul J seats forever. They make to bend and angle your legs into the footwell and that's after a FA has folded the seat over from seat to bed mode. I'll only take day flights on them,

And the J seats in bed mode are as hard as a rock. I think the worst I have ever come across. I need the doona under me for a bit of padding (and I am amply padded myself I might add).

WCMO today was QF announcing in MEL J lounge that my flight was boarding (not go to gate but actual boarding) a full 10 mins before scheduled to board. Get to gate boarding had not commenced and in fact started 10 mins late, so 15 mins standing around, could have had another coffee. Then after pushing back on time, sat for 30 mins waiting to take off.

I have guests arriving for Easter dinner at 4:30pm, going to be home an hour later than planned with so much food prep to do.

To find out how much a fare earns on a partner airline:

1) Frequent Flyer > Earn Points
The screen it takes you shows you what the program is all about now, Everyday rewards, BP Rewards and David Jones
It has a "travel and earn" section, but this does not include airline partners, you have to scroll down to "Other Ways to Earn" section.
2) Scroll a bit and you find flights.
Click here and it automatically takes you to the "Use Points" tab "Fly using Qantas Points"
(but I entered here via "Earn Points" section.
3) Click on Earn Points
4) Scroll down to click on Partner Airline
etc

Most airlines make this a simpler process.

Also the points calculator?

[
Got to go through the steps to find out eligible fare classes first.

Most programs have a couple of clicks to get to all you need to know about a partner airline, without having to go through various links or a points calculator with links.

But I must admit I’m not sure why I even bother I probably should just put the points on this airline to BA. That would be simpler and fairer for me I think.

Security at Melbourne this afternoon at T1, one person was at the end of the conveyor belt where empty bins drop down into the collection point. He was dressing himself, belt etc whilst he was standing in front of the collection point.
The empty trays that people had been able to collect their belongings were backing up, but ours and others were behind the screen and couldn't be retrieved.
I asked him if the tray holding others up was his, yes, he replied, I'm putting on my belt.
I asked him if he realised he was holding many others up, basically not my problem was the reply.
I asked why he couldn't take his tray to the side then place his empty tray back, could do was the reply, but thankyou for your help, in a sarcastic tone.
He seemed to be oblivious to the fact he was inconviencing others.

No one bothered to stack the empties on top of his?

That's the problem these days everyone thinks they are special. Back in the day attitude like that got you a personality adjustment. Nowadays they know someone will protect them, take a photo, etc..

You need a good comeback like "That must be hard without your mummy here to help you". Then he gets agro and security bounces him. ;)

Not oblivious. Just didn't give a thing.

Not on top of his… but I often just collect the empty trays and pop them in the recycler/down chute.
I got the impression the person of interest had their tray on top of the shute…

But yes, just stacking the other empties works just fine of course.

I can't tell you how delighted I was to see that I'm not alone in my loathing for SQ's regular longhaul J seats. I quite like the A380 J seats; I'm fine with the 'regional' seats on their B781s (and some other a/c I think); and the B738Max seats are great for a narrowbody (especially the thrones). It's their regular B777/A350 longhaul seat that I despise.

I flew it on the now-defunct SYD-CBR-MEL route, in a bulkhead seat (supposedly best in the house). Apart from the nice finishes, there was very little I liked about it while seated (and as a tall person I couldn't even stretch out my feet properly either on the floor or on the ottoman, due to the bulkhead). But as a bed it was truly diabolical. This was a late night flight in the right time zone for my body to sleep; I was tired; and I took my usual booze+sleeping aid combination which has seen me sleep like a baby in any number of other J (and PE) seats. Yet it was so hard and uncomfortable that I felt that I barely slept.

For the most part SQ is an excellent airline, but I've avoided that seat like the plague ever since.

This. Drives me nuts. Between the people obliviously taking forever to gather their stuff, and the people who take their stuff but leave their empty trays all backing up and blocking the others coming through, the security belt is a reliable source of aggravation. Almost every time I end up grabbing multiple people's trays and stacking them.
