How did we go down the wrong track all on the name of convenience?

A man goes to the barber and pays $50 cash for a haircut.

The barber goes to the pharmac_ and uses the $50 cash to buy medicine.

The pharmacist goes to the butcher and uses the $50 to buy meat.

The butcher goes to the hardware store and uses the $50 to buy some paint.

The hardware salesman goes to the grocery and uses the $50 to buy fruit and vegetables.

The grocer goes to petrol station and uses the $50 to buy petrol.

The petrol station attendant goes to the florist and uses the $50 to buy some flowers.

The florist goes to the pub and uses the $50 to get drunk.

If you pay by card the bank takes 1.5% each time. Ludicrous....

Exactly! And if each one of those people *banked* their cash at the end of each day, the bank would be processing all of that for free!

I suppose they are covering the costs of fraud?

And the business owner is saving money by accepting electronic payment as he does not have to walk or drive to the bank wasting valuable time. Further the risk of being robbed on the way to the bank disappears along with the cash economy.

Plus, staff can’t “misplace” the payment and accounting is all done for the business by the bank/cc company rather than spending time counting and cross checking cash payments.

Cash needs to be banked
Cash notes need to be , in some cases , verified
Cash needs to be in the handbag and therefore maybe robbed ?
I do have some cash in my wallet however I do very much enjoy the convenience of being able to track " oh blast I spent $25 at the butchers and I had forgotten " etc

And cash often doesn’t go through the books.
If I want to buy something from small shops near me I definitely pay with card even with a surcharge just so they can not avoid their tax obligations and underpay illegal workers.

My car is the red one.

Those new baby size plastic trolleys annoy me, put in 2 cartons of coke and its nearly full!
Shopping is not normally my department so this is a new annoyance.
They also have round corners so you cant pack things properly.
I see the smart people go to Big W and take their old "proper" metal trolleys if they are shopping for more than 1 person or 1 day.

In this centre it's Coles. This Woolies has both sizes. As does Coles. But Coles are metal. The other big centre near us just has Big W Woolies and Aldies. They have reintroduced plastic or real coins, there are never any stray trolleys whereas a year ago it was dreadful. Their bays also are marked for each different shop and that too works but where I park the bay slopes so it creates some funny stretches of chains and hope they stay locked or trolleys will go everywhere.

If I shop at the big 2 and the trolleys are locked waiting for a coin I go to the customer service desk (isn't that an oxy) and ask for a token. I've never been declined.

You book in the premium economy section of a LCC (ScootPlus) because that might be more comfortable and peaceful.

Your partner just went for the regular economy seats a bit further back with just 30pc extra legroom.

He gets a quiet cabin with 3 seats to himself. I get the noisiest cabin I’ve ever experienced. 8 kids under 10, with 6 of them under 5 in a cabin of 35. Including 2 directly beside me and 2 directly bejind me. ‘My partner visited and said it was a zoo.

What ever happened to families economising? Next time at this time of the year will stick to Scoot In Silence cabin.

I know you're joking but at Toowong haircut is $47.95 so give the guy a $2.05 tip instead of blowing it on surcharge and bank also taking a cut.

The funny part for me is banks started out as a safe place Wlaway from thieves. How the roles have swapped.

I know a lot of people are "sabai sabai" right now and have been for some time but I have some huge concerns.

How do we go from where we are right now to owning nothing and happy? Are they going to just take everything away from us? Are we going to get fair value for what we already own? Where is that money going to go and who will control it?

I can't stand some of the suggestions out there. I don't want anyone knowing how much Ive got. I don't want to be told where I can spend my money and what I can buy. I much rather have the option of cash so I can do my own thing.

Today is the first day I had chat to wife that we seriously need to consider moving to Thailand sooner rather than later. We need to get off the grid. My only concern is my parents and daughter. Brother is happy to move to Thailand with us.

Sadly we aren’t getting any of the arena spectaculars like they regularly put on in Japan (or more recently at the O2 Arena in London or the Intuit Dome in LA), but I’ve seen enough of their live work to know it’s still going to be a great show. Still contemplating going to their MEL show as well (despite having succeeded in securing my spot for SYD).
