What cheeses me off

Then on the day of the flight, got called in for an urgent work that is not avoidable - missing the flight altogether :(

The flight in question is the first commercial service of QF A220s :( ex-CBR!
Shame to miss that, although thankfully you had a flex fare (under the circumstances...)

Yea Flex saved the day so to speak. The thing that CMO was I made every effort to be on that service. I even went to the point of doing VA CR CBR-MEL and then joining MEL-CBR QFA220, but timing was not on my side.

Oh, and there were goody bags too - that I missed :( Now I'm even more CO! :(

WCMO …..…… excessive mark up of wines in restaurants:

This is at our current ‘favourite / go to’ Le Bar in Beaumaris - love this place 👍 - hate the markup on wines 👎
I also hate the fact ‘cool’ restaurants do not have dollar and cent signs
Just numbers apparently….
Maybe you could try paying in Argentinian pesos since currency not mentioned?!

Well I've got some Zimbabwe dollars. They would be quite cheap with my Indonesian Rupiah as well.

Been to Entrecote in Prahran?
Great indoor/outdoor spaces to choose from, excellent service, wonderful food, but don't go there if you are feeling particularly thirsty (unless someone else is paying)...or take a few valium before scanning the wine list.

I avoid restaurants that do not permit BYO and/or have ripoff prices as the norm on the wine list. For example $10 at Dan Murphy's and $75 at the restaurant ! My regular spot used to charge $10 a bottle for BYO and recently decided to put it up to $35 a bottle. I advised them I would be attending far less often if at all as a consequence. Plenty of other restaurants that want the business.

Yep been there 2 times on the same night - my first and last visit - 10 minutes away is Olive Tree in Sth Melb where steak is 10 times better and can BYO wine
Haven't been to the Olive Tree since the 1990's. Must re-visit. Was an after work Friday favourite when I worked in Dorcas St.

That my wife can cook Masaman, Panang, Red, Green and Yellow curry and it tastes delicious and I follow instructions to the letter and have her help me when I cook and it tastes nothing like her effort.

Had beef Bolar blade with red curry over the weekend and today it was lamb pieces with red curry. Both delicious.

I bought about 20 packets of curry from Big C for around 80c each and brought them here last trip and I find if we use that packet twice its just about right with flavour and very mild.

Would like to go to this restaurant but not at these wine prices.
2015 Henschke 'Mount Edelstone' Eden Valley Shiraz @ $438...
$220 down the road.

2021 By Farr 'Sangreal' Geelong Pinot @ $248
$115 down the road.

Can see your point!

Qantas involuntary changes not offering suitable alternative when there are seats available on better flight.

Have a MEL-SYD flight next Jan booked which was booked during DSC where the J fares were $450. Qantas changes scheduled today cancelling my flight wants me to fly at 8pm which sees me stuck at MEL for almost 5 hours, with only other options offered at 4pm or earlier which is only 45 min connection too risky for my liking; giving earlier flights are on a different PNR (because stupid multi-city wouldnt let me add MEL-SYD to my itinerary on the same day).

Looking at website there are still J seats available on the 17:15, 17:30 lights selling at the same price I paid and seat on the 18:00 (but that is selling at 3 times what I paid). So why cant i choose the 17:15 or 17:30 flights?

And is common as it is quicker and easier for housemaids to make up the bed. It annoys me intensely but can see why they do it.

Also probably helps with laundry management. I just plain don't like doonas in hotels in tropical/hot countries. It's just unnecessary. Oh, and in Beijing in the middle of winter where hotels turn into saunas.

Foreigners coming to Australia on student visas to study online courses and on their first day here have job lined up already.

Wife working at this motel as housekeeper for 9 months now and they've just taken on another student visa worker. One of the housekeepers is male and is the spouse of someone on student visa and he just brought in a friend on student visa. Wife has just been taken off weekend roster and her weekday hours have also been cut.

This is just stupid. How long is the government going to allow this rort to continue? I know non residents pay more tax but they are taking jobs off Australians and I suspect partly the cause for rents also continuing to go up.

Not sure I'd call it a rort - have you seen what international tuition costs look like? I can't understand how any international students can afford to study in Australia without having a job lined up day 1

Likely also the answer as to why the govt won't be rushing to change the rules. I say this in exactly your position with my wife unable to work full time at the moment due to our kids being young and needing to get to places through the week, yet as a casual worker she's often displaced for shifts when the students start, and "curiously" flush with shifts when the year ends.
