What cheeses me off

yeah nah, "could care less" is qualitative not quantitative
Exactly, it is saying that there are other things which you do care less about, even if it doesn’t count them.

By comparison to say you couldn’t care less says there is nothing that you care less about, it’s totality, you care more about every other thing!

Very common on Flyertalk, comments like this

But have also seen alternative usage by someone who was either a pom or a kiwi:
That's kinda strange. I've got a an American colleague who definitely uses lucked out to mean out of luck...
The moonunit example could be "you got bumped from flight with compo" so bad luck, congrats. But doubtful given the other examples.

Strange is the word I can only use.

There's something that I "could care less about" random thought police trying to determine what's on topic. I might even be cheesed...

Hmm, yes, I understand that, my reply is in response to the bold bit I added to your post. There is no indication of how much they do or do not "could care less".
It is only qualitative, does not give a measure of the size of the care.

Probably something for the Grammar thread if you could care less about what is discussed here...

Apologies if this has already been mentioned up thread? But what cheeses me off are airlines limiting carry in baggage in the interest of an on time departure (whatever that means these days?) yet actively promote the use of mobile boarding passes.

How much time is wasted via that method over paper? Every second passenger seems to fumble with their phone, have to reactivate their phones after it locks, fiddle with the screen, spend seconds shuffling the phone around to get the scanner to read it.

Those with paper passes just sail through… or not… having to wait behind those with mobile passes! *grrrrr*

Agree - and I'd put people paying at shops with mobile-phone credit cards. Face rec not working, enter pin, wave the wrong end on the reader, oops need to double click, try a few times... Just get the card out while things are being scanned and tap the chip reader when ready. Or, in my case, just bring the watch to the reader & done.

what cheeses me off is wankers at the gym, who just spend nearly all the time on their phones, without any regard to others who want to use machines.
Not kidding, but its like 90% of gym goers have their phone with them, scrolling between sets.
Feel like telling them that if they focused enough energy to their training and diet, as they do their phone, they would be in much better shape......
I must be showing my age (53), but to me, a gym is a place where you get fit and strong, and to escape the high tech world we live in.

... particularly those who get onto a machine and then start playing with their phone. For me, during actual recovery between sets maybe OK, but otherwise just stand over there to do your damn Facebooking.

Or spread all their junk on the benches in the change room, blocking access and sitting space for those people whose lockers are near theirs.

I look at my phone between sets, what else am I supposed to do for that 30-60 seconds? Not using my phone isn't going to get me off the equipment any quicker.
On the other hand, there are people who leave their phones on one piece of equipment while they use another so that no one can use either...

Did you read the fine print on when you get the 10% discount?.
I thought it was next 2 recharges but it's on next recharge before 31/01/23.

I should have been more specific....
When your on your phone for 5 min between sets, or youre sitting on a bench looking at your phone, and then you get up and walk away to another machine.

Ive seen people leave a phone, towel, drink bottle, on different work stations at the same time, because they think they are so 'special'

Sounds similar to those people who at 7am throw towels on lounge chairs around pools and then they go away for breakfast or whatever and don't come back for hours.

Funny you mention that!
I was at Hamilton Island recently - happened all the time.
I had breakfast at 6, so by 6.30 was poolside on lounge chairs.
One family actually did this twice in a row. They put there towels down on 5 lounge chairs before 7, but came back around 9.30 - by that time poolside was packed.
I thought stuff that - 3rd morning they did it again, so after a few minutes of them leaving, I grabbed their towels, and placed on the grass.
They werent happy when they came back - they complained to the people who had their 5 chairs.
I then spoke to the people who grabbed the lounges, told them the story, and said good -serves them right

At 18 they told me if you were 21 car insurance would be cheaper. At 21, they said too bad you not 25, car insurance would be cheaper. 25 comes long and 30 is the new target. 40 turns into 50 and I still think I'm paying too much for car insurance. And the last time I bent a car was back in 1988 when some clown did a U-turn in front of me.
Bronze QFF since 1995. Rewards flights far and few, only seats on cash flights at the back of the bus. If you were Silver they told me things would be better. Made Silver, no change, still no flights and Gold would be a lot better they say.
So I make Gold, no real change to life. WP is what you need they said, life is better at the top. 2 months later I make WP.
Booked my first commercial flight as WP yesterday. Row 6 in Y first available seats for a flight in May. Row 2 in J on the way home. All rows in front of me have the dreaded X on every seat.
They better not say P1 is better, because I will go outright postal.
But I do get to hit up the First class lounge now. That's better.

Well done @MrMatureGuy
These kind of people belong in the pantheon of ‘travellus horribilis’ where we see such specimens as wanker in last row of Y who places hand luggage in J on way through, smelly feet on chairs and tables and my personal favorite ‘hominis voluminus’ who seals the deal on speakerphone and facetime at decibels louder the A380 taking off. You just got the shadenfraude award. Congratulations 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
