What cheeses me off

Uber are now investigating alleged indecent acts and issuing “charges’? No point in having a police force and a judicial system really. Let the app and a bunch of anonymous offshore workers decide your fate. I’d be taking that one to the media if it happened to me. They’d be all over it.

I should’ve perhaps worded my post better

By charges I meant, the complaint that was made by the driver against me. Uber’s investigation is talking to both parties and to determine who is speaking the truth. I’m not sure if the inner workings of this truth finding committee. But that’s how it was explained to me on an email.

No charges were issued against me - my access to the Uber app was removed and not reinstated until their investigation cleared me off any wrongdoing

The comms team was actually based here (going off their accent)

Indecent act is a serious allegation. Uber has no right to even contemplate an investigation. It’s a police matter.

How is that?
whatever the circumstances business actually have an obligation to do their own investigations whether or not it is reported to the police.

Uber then kicked me out of their app pending investigation
One of the problems with rideshare is that the barriers to entry is so low that they will always get dodge drivers.
Basically the drivers are trying to prevent a strike against them by laying it on you.
sorry to hear you had a sh**ty week

Although you may find they can easily hit you with penalty charge (usually 25%) and interest charged and if you are due a refund will take it from that.
ATO - you run but you cant hide!
Yes I know but they've always waived penalties in the past.

ATO deserves their own cheese me off thread. They settle for half a $400mil debt but then hound a middle income earner late with their $1000 PAYG instalment.

Society needs a reset with the way the rich have everything in their favour.

Penalties maybe. Depends if they perceive any deception. But tax owing? This isn't going to end well.

I would like to tell you what cheese my wife off at the airport... it is me...it is little things like:
Why do I need to check the regos?

Why do I want to I want to take photos of every plane we pass?

Why do I want to go to a gate that is at the other end of the airport to see that plane...

To solve these issues she normally finds a window overlooking the runway and will sit and read and remind me when it is time to go the gate.

I don't think Mrs 747 is that cheesed off with me as we have been travelling together for 35 years with many more ahead 😄

I leave the Wife and the 8 year old in the lounge while I go walking with the 5 year old to take photos and look at planes :D

Colleagues in the office who sit at their desks for 5+ minutes all apps closed and waiting for "home time" before shutting down and leaving - it's called flex time for a reason: log off and cop the -'ve time, don't be a &$%# public servant

There’s a difference between matters concerning breaches of policy, terms and conditions as opposed to matters of criminal law. You’d be comfortable with Uber investigating allegations of rape against you? Seriously?

So sorry you have to put up with this. How incredibly stressful for you. I just loathe this Wild West gig economy. Get a lawyer to write a stern letter about potential defamation

Maybe just threaten to go to a lawyer to seek advice on defamation proceedings.

I got fined $700 and recorded a civil conviction in the Magistrate’s Court for not submitting one tax return 10 years ago. This despite the fact that the ATO actually owed me money from the assessment and I’d never previously missed a lodgement in 20 odd years. Why? Because the Child Support Agency alleged I’d under-reported my income after my ex lodged a complaint that I wasn’t paying enough. I was overseas and missed the lodgement deadline. This wasn’t systematic rorting or a consistent pattern of non-compliance. A one-off. The CSA rang my employer, contacted friends and family and basically did whatever they wanted. I’m convinced they have more power and less transparency than the police.

Result: Automatically guilty.

When my accountant eventually provided evidence of income to the ATO and the CSA which proved my assessment was correct I got no apology, acknowledgment, or retraction of the conviction. It’s like it never happened. The only positive outcome was my CSA obligations were eventually reassessed and my ex ended up in debt to me, which I waived.
I know self employed high earners who haven’t lodged for 3 or 4 years and no action has been taken.
Low hanging fruit like me prop up the ATO’s KPI’s.

Tell that to the doctors.

Four Corners has reviewed a decade of published disciplinary decisions and has discovered almost 500 health practitioners have been sanctioned by tribunals for sexual misconduct involving patients since 2010.

More than 160 are still allowed to work today.

Strawman.
An organisation will do its own investigation irrespective of whether the police is involved.

Do you think a bank won't investigate fraud within its organisation and only leave it to the police?

Do you think if someone gets injured at a workplace, that the investigation is only done by WorkCover and not by the business?

Do you think that when an airplane crashes, the investigation is only in the hands of the crash investigators?.

All organisations will conduct its own internal investigations separately.

Here Uber of course will look into it. They need to look at whether to report to police separately from the complainant. They need to look at whether or not the rider should be suspended from the platform or not. They need to look at the complaint and gather their own information to make decisions about their treatment of the complainant and the rider.

I think you are conflating conducting investigations and making allegations.

AJ continuing to argue with BA.
2 weeks ago booked MCY - SYD return and could get Row 6.
Today first row available row 15.
Had similiar experiences when flying to Tasmania.

I don't understand what you mean ... if you're accumulating debt that just means you're not paying taxes that have resulted from being given money. If your accumulation of debt increases, that just means you're being given MORE money, and worst-case you're being given double the extra amount you could be accumulating ... ?
I was referring to my own personal debt.

I was 5-7 years behind in tax returns some time ago and caught up. They waived all penalties and I ended up getting overall refund.

Sorry to read your experience @Guvner.
