What are your most liked/indispensable travel apps?

And this time - for the first time in a few trips - I needed a paper copy of a hotel booking. 'Our computer cannot see it'.

I always download the apps for airlines I'm flying on but definitely sign into and save your pnr in the app to monitor for any changes to departure times, gate changes etc.

I noticed on a recent flight ATL/HSV that the Delta app shows you the progress of your flight so you know how many minutes left and this is without having to pay for onboard wi-fi.

We had a delay on AA flying LIR/xMIA/xORD/LAX and rather than have to ask the gate agent who was swamped with enquiries from people the AA app showed that we'd been rebooked LIR/xMIA/xIAH/LAX then when we were further delayed LIR/xMIA/xCLT/LAX. When I looked on the AA website at our booking it just said there was an error and we needed to call reservations so the app is definitely more helpful with delays.

In addition to having apps some kind of data plan is essential as you can't always rely on free airport wi-fi or lounge wi-fi which often doesn't work onboard the aircraft while still at the gate. When boarding starts at least T-45 sometimes you want to get onboard asap to secure locker space but still have internet access

I try and load local apps on my phone like tourist information and also trip advisor and have the maps on my phone as well

For me it's TripIT, Uber and XE Currency, although I typically use ANZ's forex webpage these days as it's closer to what I'm actually getting.
Interestingly customs officers (at least in the UK) are now taking TripIT as evidence of plans. So for my last few international trips I haven't even bothered taking a paper copy of my itinerary.


I do have the Qantas QStreaming app, but I think the last time I used that was a year ago, on a 717 service which had QStreaming as it's only entertainment.

When I went into the UK from Italy after Christmas (and had been in the UK prior to the Italy trip) they wouldn't accept any apps for flights to prove I was going home - when I said OK and started looking for the email from Qantas for my flight he said not to bother because I wasn't phased by the question.

The stupid thing is that it was a FF booking and I could have easily printed it out and then cancelled it

I use many of the dedicated travel apps already mentioned (see screen shots), and these:

• Citymapper for public transport (or Moovit for places Citymapper doesn't cover)
• Google Maps for navigation (sometimes Waze)
• Google Translate (very handy when I was in Japan)
• XE currency for checking currency rates, and Prosper Daily to monitor for suspect credit card transactions
• Moves — I nickname it "my stalker app" — for keeping track of when and where I've been
• Foursquare, which constantly surprises me with good recommendations for food and coffee, and when travelling outside of the USA, has wider coverage than Yelp

I'm not sure if i submitted Next Stop Paris previously for travelling on the Metro, Tells you which lines to use and the direction of the train. It also gives the travel time. Iusede it in 2015 and kept it on my phone as a souvenir, but since I am returning there in a few weeks I'll get to use it again.

Tripit is fantastic! Keeps all by bookings in one place. Someone just introduced me to I Know the Pilot - seems quite good too.

Open Table. Great app! Have just booked a truckload of restaurants in Dallas, Mexico, and NYC ... all booking details listed and confirmed. It also has a terrific search function that allows you to see what's hot and new.
