What are the chances of Virgin buying AIRBUS equipment?

Unnamed airline has just ordered 52 A320's from Airbus. Some think it might be Virgin, but who knows.

Could be Ryanair, could be any number of airlines... will wait for the proper announcement :)

Rumour says Alaskan.

Don't they have quite the substantial 737-800/900 fleet? I recall flying new-looking/smelling 737-800's not that long with them...

*edit*
yup. quite substantial. Total of 148 737's in their fleet. 18 CRJ 700's, 37 Q400's.

Breakdown of 737's:

900's - 12
800's - 51
700's - 19
400's - 31
combi - 5

Unlikely to replace relatively new metal (900/800's) with Airbus IMHO...

19+31 = 50

Looks like about the number to me.......

Would be a strange fit. After the accident with their MD80 a few years back, the management streamlined to make the airline profitable and got rid of all the MD80's and replaced them with the 737's.

Would seem strange for an airline to go to add another aircraft type into the mix, considering it would be far more cost effective not to have to re-train all their staff for a new type.

That and they made a big deal about doing what they did and staying with 737's for the mainline, and the few RJ's and Q400's for regional stuff.

Of course, just my 2c. I'm no aircraft scheduler or expert, just what I believe:)

No more Airbus in Australia please!

While the current A320's etc are nice to fly I am looking forward to the re-styled, signature interior on the 737's coming in about 6-9 months.

Hopefully DJ go with these much newer looking interiors

With Jetstar & Tiger flying those buzz boxes all around I enjoy DJ and QF with their Boeings! :)

Hi there

Brett G was in Toulouse recently, whilst touring around the world buying airplanes, but was only talking to Airbus about the A350.

More 737's coming, plus the deferred 777's sorted out.

Possibly some 773 orders changed to 772LR's for VA to launch into southern Europe ahead of JQ.

Also the MEL-SYD-BNE triangle & East Coast -Perth maybe operated by V Australia as a counter to QF cityflyer, using a dedicated fleet of 737's & 777's with full Business class service.

Cheers

That's good news - V Australia to compete with cityflyer on "the triangle" and to PER would put great product on those sectors, and allow DJ to remain more LCC-esque and better to compete with JQ.
Mind you, 777s are a big a/c to fill if you want to keep hourly frequencies.

I would have thought 777-200LRs (not ERs) would be preferred?

United just announced an order for 25 odd 350's and 25 787's. Could this 25 be part of the 'Airbus' order?

If VA purchased a few 772LRs they could also go SYD/PER then nonstop to LHR, or similar, making them the first with direct non stop flights, catching the opposition napping....................

Cheers Dee

WOW - Hope they can afford to pay for these.

Hedging their bets both ways I guess, would have liked all 787's

Surprised that they went for both as they said a few weeks ago that it was a "winner take all order"

Also surprised the 787 announcement was not held for just after the first flight of the 787 in a week or so.............
