Hi all,

Sorry if this topic has been covered, I just want to get the latest thoughts on the following:
Looking for points tickets with KF.
I would like to take my family to Italy on the 5th Sep 2015 returning 28th Sep. I am flexible with dates.
BRI-SIN-MXP (Milan)
then return from Rome: ROM-SIN-BNE
I have about 800K+ Amex MR points and wish to travel in F or a suite.
Does anyone know the likelihood of snagging 4 seats... if not in F or Suite what about J.
I have never used KF so this is all new to me. I could alternatively go with VA (more expensive) or even EY but I
am very interested in the Suites. I was going to go with VA via EY but KF points for F and cheaper than J with VA.
If it helps, I am a VA plat.
Oh, and what is the difference between Saver Award/Standard Award and Full Award? I'm guessing availability is less on the Saver?
Any tips or thoughts would be much appreciated.

Mark

Award seats are not released that far ahead. However had a quick look online and the furtherst award, based on today, is 22 June 2015. I did enter 4 passengers BNE-xSIN-MXP and there are 4 available Saver awards in business class. Cost is 323,000 KF miles plus $1,882 in taxes one way. Also I don't think SQ flies a F cabin to BNE anyway so if you want to fly F, then its flying either via SYD/MEL. Also you need to remember that some smaller European destinations such as MXP and FCO will not be served by the larger A380 planes which have the F suites.

The best thing you should do now is to register for KF and do the searches yourself in around three months time when award seats for SEP2015 become available.

Hi Mark, I agree with Alanslegal. Join Krisflyer & do some dummy bookings to get an idea of availability. I think you will struggle with 4 but could probably get 2 and 2.
Bris / Singapore is the 330-300 so only 2 class. To Milan is the 777-300 so 2 or 3 class & Rome to Sing is the 777-200 which is 2 or 3 class but no Suites anywhere. The business products can be a bit of hit & miss / recline / angle flat / full flat. So your research will be very important to get what you want.
If a saver ticket is worth 100k points then standard is around 200k & full 400k & you will see that full is always available. Don't transfer any Amex points to Krisflyer until you have the discounted (online booking) points cost. Then transfer the number required.
Enjoy the research.

Hi Alanslegal & Dr Bob,
Thank you for your very informative replies. So the deal is to join KF and do dummy bookings. I didn't think this was possible as VA and QF don't let you unless you have the points in the account already (no points no check availability for 4 pax). If what you say is the case I will join KF asap and dummy book away... obviously wait until Sep comes available...
In the case of searching for F class, I need to do dummy bookings from SYD... not a problem, quick 1 hr flight from G Coast to Syd.
Dr Bob, what do you mean by "will struggle with 4 but could probably get 2 and 2" does that mean 2 separate flights?
Alanslegal, 323K for 4 pax is 80K per person, Milan is in Zone 12, so would it not be 95K per person... One Way Saver Award?
BTW in Feb I booked J class award seats for 4 pax BRI-AUH-ATH then IST-AUH-SIN-BRI for Sep this year without any problems on VA via EY... So I know the availability is there with these airlines, maybe my WP has something to do with it!. I don't want to risk the situation being unable to get 4 pax on the same flight.
Many thanks, you have both been so so helpful. Mark

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You could get 4 in J but I think only 2 in F for redemption bearing in mind the 777s have 8 F seats & the A380s 12 suites where as Js will be 40 to 50 seats.
The 95K per pax becomes 80K after the ONLINE booking discount. If it's a phone assisted booking then the 95K is the cost.
Also you might want to look at "mixed class" bookings for F & J sectors. Can't do these online so have to ring. There is a thread on this somewhere in here so have a hunt.

Hi Dr Bob,
2 x F & 2 x J is fine by me... The kids wont mind J... I'm sure of that. So just to confirm the following:
1. There is generally availability if you book super early(250+ days ahead) for mix J & F (4 pax)
2, F is only available SYD - SIN only
3, J only from SIN - MXP
4, J only from FCO - SIN - SYD
5, 95K points one way as I will need to call for mixed booking.
6. look up other threads...

Thank you once again... Maybe I will become a FF guru with all this know ledge... Cheers Mark

PS: Also, you dont have to have the points in KF to check availability, is this correct?

However the airline may not allow two "kids" to sit by themselves. You may have to have one parent with each child depending on their age.

Hi Lovetravellingoz, yes I understand. Will try though by asking the cabin manager once on board as the kids are 15+ and 16+ and very mature. Thanks again. Mark

Yes you can join and search for awards, even with no points.

If you book the award online, you get a 15% online discount. Thus a saver award of 95,000 gets reduced 80,750.

Hi there Alanslegal,
Can you tell me what is the difference between
Redeem Award Flights &
Pay with KrisFlyer Miles.
I am trying to do some dummy bookings and not sure which one I should be going under. Cheers

Redeem Award flights = Redeeming for award flights.
Pay with KrisFlyer miles = Use your KrisFlyer miles to pay for all or part of your airfare.

If you use the latter, you are basically purchasing a cash ticket and using your points to 'pay' for some of the cash component. Very similar to Qantas' cash and points if you have used that. I don't know what KrisFlyer works out what a point is worth, but I am guessing it is around 1cent per point. So 1,000 = $10.00.

I think you want to redeem an award, so tick the first box.
