Oh bummer.

Well I can use my points for the family of 3 economy return Perth to paris 336,000 + $2k in taxes. Problem is I seem to have left it too late and have to come home a week early :(

Exit paris - 8th december
Exit Zurich - 7th decomber
Exit athens - fails everytime with error code

Can anyone think of an exit city that may not be quite as full coming back? Or is it perhaps the dubai--> perth leg that is packed

Cheers

High season so few reward seats available. Maybe fly one direction on points and back paid?

e.g. Up in business class to London for 336000 points and $950 on the 15th of Nov, back in economy ex Prague for $2800 on the 15th of Dec.

Hey Greenfish, that seems ok. I can get to paris via dubai in business easy enough. Is the flight from Prague Qantas?

Thanks so much

Expedia came up with an Emirates / Qantas combo, probably bookable more cheaply elsewhere. The 14th is even cheaper at $2500 all in for the PRG->PER segment, again an Emirates / Qantas combo, though both flights on Emirates metal.

Qantas QF only fly Dubai DXB to London. All others will be codeshares on Emirates EK
Look at seperate tickets Europe to DBX and then tickets DXB to Perth (cash or points). Or phone QF

Yeah I might need to call Qantas once I have a firm itinerary as I can't find anything using points from Dubai to Perth except for Cathay through hong kong

Yeah it is nuts really. I work in the web industry so I know all about websites (Airbnb is my fav for accommodation)

There is just a crazy insane number of options to get to and from (not to mention sorting out the itinerary in :p)

Somehow I have to convince my wife that it is a good use of Points flying business class home

Watch out for that Cathay flight if it is on the 15th... aside from going though HKG, only one segment is business, the other is economy. Watch for the ! on the booking.

Wow this is harder than I thought.

Try as I might, every which way I was going to end up paying for a leg from Prague to Perth.

Managed to do points from Frankfurt to Perth so all up Perth-->Paris-->Frankfurt-->Perth will be $1340 ~ inc taxes and fees.

Couple of questions:

1. Anyone know of a direct flight to either Hong Kong or Singapore that doesnt go through Dubai? I like these two cities as stop overs.
2. What are the main departure points for Emirates/Qantas? I know LHR, Frankfurt, CDG, Zurich which are the others?

This is nuts everytime I think I have it sorted out :p

Welcome to the world of AFF ;):p. Life (battling airlines) was not meant to be easy - but the rewards come to the informed and persistent .

There are often some very good J fares ex DXB to Australia or HKG.

Hmmm thats interesting, ill check that out as an option.

Frankfurt just doesnt excite me all that much at all :(

If I was picking airports to fly in / out of, FRA would rank miles above CDG. Don't forget that most of these airports are fairly close to each other by Australian standards - often just a fairly cheap train (or overnight train for Prague) ride apart.

As for Frankfurt itself, the Christmas markets would be well worth a visit on your way through.

.- Trip is on for Novemeber 15-December 15th unless someone here can tell me why January would be a better option in the long run

What have booked so far ?
Awards flights go very quickly. Dec 15 is peak time to Australia. 100's if not 1000's are looking for paid & award flights. Dec 15 to Dec 25 airlines are likely to sell close to every seat
