What are Flybuys best redemptions?

I have to disagree. I think in their revamp Coles did lift their game. Flybuys is just an inherited name, in effect this is a scheme that rewards you with points that get converted to money off for future shopping at Coles or its subsidiaries. If you want airline points then by all means shop at Woolworths, but I find the Woolworths scheme has become so mean that I accumulate very few points for shopping at Woolworths, and the extra points offers are few and far between.

In contrast at Coles I am often getting triple points, special offers of 500 to 1000 points, and extra points for my AGL and Medibank spending. Plus the petrol offers have been better. (Until 31/12/13!). Woolworths have taken a less agressive approach, but have missed out on a lot of my spending, even though my preference is to earn Qantas points. When the value of points at Woolworths is $1.00 compared to $5.00 at Coles, I know where my spend will be.

I valued a flybuy point at 0.5c and QFF point at 3c. Flybuys would have to offer 6x for me to even consider Coles.

Well put whatmeworry. Can you really get half a cent out of Flybuys?

The most useful reward for members is the flybuys dollars which are 2000 points for $10. That's where the 0.5cent conversion comes in. There are some rewards you can get 1 cent per point but not everyone can use them(Mix Apparel). I believe that the Webject conversions are only 0.5cents per point.

Okay cove, I think I know what you meant by half a cent. Very funny.

Depends how much you spend each shop. The fact you don't get any points on the first $30 makes EDR poor value for me, while FB gives me an extra point for my insurance and the regular bonus points helps kick things along.

I generally spend $40-$70 a week on groceries. Most of the time I'd be lucky to get 40 QFF points where for the same spending I'll get at least 140 FB points, quite often 210 or 280.

I seem to be able to get $100-120 in FB $$$ each year which I'm happy with. If EDR would let me swap the fuel discount for points from the first $ I'd be tempted to swap as the fuel voucher is useless to me since I don't drive.

Well we value flybuys points at 0.5 cents(usually Bunnings cards) and QFF points at 2 cents.
If a small spend at a supermarket then Coles it is-both coles and Woolies are at our closest mall.
Many more offers from Coles meaning most of our spending recently is with them.
Woollies let themselves down for us as being away a lot means no more offers whereas at Coles as long as you activate the offers keep coming. In December had over 20 current activated offers from Coles.

OK.I have got to my 10000 points.Go online and no bunnings, target, coles or fly buy dollars to be had.Only Kmart.
What gives.Xmas was nearly 3 weeks ago now.Surely Coles can restock their own gift cards in that time.

flybuys dollars (which replaced the old flybuys gift card in April 2012) are loaded directly and immediately to your own flybuys card, without the need to wait for a card to be sent out. You can redeem for them at https://www.flybuys.com.au/rewards#/get-money-off-with-your-points and can be used at Coles, Kmart, Target, Liquorland and First Choice Liquor. We're sorry that the Bunnings gift card is no longer offered, but you can use the money you save on your shop using flybuys dollars to purchase a Bunnings gift card (they're available to buy at Coles, Kmart and Target, for example).

Interesting. We see things from a different angle.

1stly ... we notice the promos we get increase ie the spend required rises constantly for FBs. By then the Woolies QF offers have started to roll in ... we then stop spending at Coles and move to WW QF points. Then after not spending at Coles for a period, the offers come back down to normal levels. We usually wait even further until the offers have become below our normal spend, then start spending at Coles ... again the offer requirement starts to rise until it becomes unachievable ... so we switch to Woolies as their offers have started ... we then rinse and repeat. The supermarkets have failed to understand the notion of loyalty and just push for an increased spend vs trying to keep a customer. Naturally as you keep increasing the spend requirement the customer will eventually drift.

2ndly ... a FB point is worth about half a cent normally (excluding double / triple offers) if cashed in for gift cards / cash rebates . A QF point is worth between 5 to 7 cents if redeemed for a JASA long haul in our books. So with bonus QF point offers this only improves e.g spend $50 get 200 points (plus normal points). Worst case, a QF point usually yields 1 cent value Red-e SYD-MEL excluding bonus offers. But you'd never redeem at that level.

I guess it just depends on personal value. FBs seems to have been the worst at increasing the required weekly spend to get offers as the amounts rise very rapidly in our experience.

If you have a NAB Fly Buys Visa card you earn 1pt/$1 spent for all transactions (not just at Coles Group). But this effectively allows you double points with Coles Group, or shop at Woolies with EDR and get FB & QFF points. For a grocery spend under $30 I'd go Coles as you'll still earn some points. But don't go spending $3 on petrol for 6 cents worth of loyalty points!

nonpop, has you view changed at all now that JASA's are gone (from 1 July)?

Anyone have any experience with Coles car insurance claims? I have been cold called and offer seems good.... They keep banging on about double fly buy points as a Coles insurance customer :/

Who is the underwriter and who owns them at the minute would be questions you could ask Plant as the only reason you need insurance is when you need a claim handled quickly. Also do they provide a replacement car while your wreck is being re-born?

I think wesfarmers is the underwriter. I think you have to pay extra per year so they give you a rental car.

Not sure if it's posted elsewhere, but BW nights are no longer available at all (last time I checked, in early Jan. the cost had gone up from 19900 to 22400 points). You can still get $50 or $100 BW gift cards for 10000 or 20000 points respectively, but that's not as good a value, as usually you can get the best rate by booking ahead and prepaying, and I don't believe you can use these gift cards for that (I'd be happy to be proven wrong on this). So I guess the remaining value for this is to use them for Coles and associated stores, right?
