Great info.We intend to spend some time in NZ in Feb 2019.looking to stay in some nice lodges etc. This may fit the bill.Thanks.

When I finish this one I'll do a TR on Huka Lodge, we've stayed a couple of times - it's a pretty special place!

We had two activities arranged today - clay target shooting and ATV quad biking.

First up - Clay Target Shooting.

The lodge has three courses and you shoot at all of them.

Loading the skeet

Course one .... you can see the orange clay just above the tree line to the left of water.

Course 2 ... same skeet but you are driven below and shoot up.

Course 3 .... double skeet and you shoot left and right

You can see the double targets flying away

It was great fun. First time for me with a very low hit rate of around 20%.

I have always wanted to try that ! Do you get much recoil from the gun ??

No, not at all. They have all the gear (padded vest), and take the time to show you how to position correctly. It was an awesome experience.

Next up - ATV Quad

Basically, you ride through part of the farm, head down to the river and end up on the beach.... then it's a 7km "flat chat" beach run back to the lodge.

Some of the course...

Stunning property!!

All there was left to do was hit the throttle and flat chat the 7km back up the beach... this was so much fun :) Top speed was 65 k/ph

Doing 50ks on a beach with one hand steering and the other taking a photo with the phone ..... is not that easy.

Sadly, it was time to leave. So after saying our goodbyes - it was time to head back to WLG.

We drove the same track back, but stopped at Rimutaka Crossing Lookout for a look.

The memorial commemorates the 60,000 WW1 troops that matched from Featherson camp to Wellington.

Returned the hire car without fuss and made our way into the terminal. Had to wait for the counters to open and once inside, we had to wait to be allowed into the Int part of the terminal.

The view - waiting for the Int section to open.

The lounge...

Well, that's it. A great couple of days book-ended by DSC :). Next time I'll book three nights so we can visit the wineries .... live and learn. If you come here - book for three nights.

Next up - a mini TR on Huka Lodge.

Then in around 6 weeks from now, it's Dallas, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and NYC for a 5 week family adventure, this one is shaping up as a trip to remember! :):D:)
