Looking at their website it seems like they are renaming it to be Westpac Altitude Qantas - it seems to have the exact same perks / point earn etc as the Earth Black did.

When following links to the Earth cards on the Westpac site it now puts up a username and password prompt.

The cards are also now listed in "Cards no longer for sale" as follows:
Earth Black (no longer available) | Westpac
Earth Platinum (no longer available) | Westpac
Earth (no longer available) | Westpac

Are changed afoot for the Altitude cards to bring back Altitude Qantas or is Westpac's relationship with Qantas over?

I agree. As an existing Earth Black card holder I can't see any differences. I expect we will roll over to this when our current cards expire.

Neither of us have the ability to generate any significant points earn through the ATO.

The "upgrades" thing is potentially interesting, I don't remember anything like that with Earth:

Qantas Rewards

  • Earn Qantas Frequent Flyer points for flights on Qantas, Jetstar and a range of partner airlines
  • Qantas flight upgrades (where available).

Or perhaps not. In the card details for the Altitude Black, I can't see anything more than (under "Redeeming your points"):

  • Request a Flight Upgrade Award on eligible Qantas domestic and international flights
I also see "For each statement cycle a points cap of 3,750 Qantas Points applies when using either or both cards. Bonus Points do not count towards the Points cap."

(Elsewhere it says "uncapped". They're obviously still working on the page.)

[h=4]Earning Qantas Points on Earth credit cards[/h] The details on how and when you earn Qantas Points are in the Earth Conditions of Use (PDF 325kb) (Opens in new window).
Effective 9 November 2014, we will be introducing some changes to the way you earn Qantas Points on ATO payments. For more details see the Earth Conditions of Use.
For each statement cycle a points cap of 2,500 Qantas Points applies when using either or both cards. Bonus Points do not count towards the points cap.

Does the 2500 Qantas pts cap per statement cycle apply to the earth Black card now?

The Singapore Airlines Card has also been discontinued. Yet Krisflyers hasn't been moved under the Altitude cards.

Any thoughts on the Westpac Altitude Business Platinum ?
This appears to be the only card which can sweep indirectly to QFF.
As a rusted on QFF'er even I am thinking it might be time to diversify and this card might allow me to break myself in gently.
Would be very interested on experiences with this.
Cheers

I am a little curious as to their reasoning behind shutting it down, as it was less than a year ago that QF were ringing me about this fantastic new card they were launching with Westpac.

I Can only guess that the crossover between earth and altitude was too much to justify offering two products.

Pretty sure that just refers to requesting points upgrades as a member of QFF.

Maybe with the points capping the "bottom fell out" of usage and it became no longer viable.

I cancelled mine in January. (Comment made by agent when doing so was that they could see I had never used the Mastercard component ...)

When they introduced earth black and put on the points cap for earth platinum I called them demanding to be moved to the earth black. Someone kindly added me to the upgrade to black list.

Husband has had Earth Black for a number of years and has been able to get his annual fee reversed every time.
We have been happy with the card. So will be very interested to see if things change.
We both got the ANZ (him black me platinum) recently. So will keep an eye on it.
Although we used his Earth Black for travel next year for the travel insurance.

I recently took up the 12 month free Altitude Business Platinum card primarily as will be closing Altitude Black in December on renewal. Altitude allowed me to transfer all points across from Black to Business which now gives me access to QF along with the previous airline mix. Stay well clear of any government purchases with the minute earn rate including RMS tolls.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

After 5 yrs of holding the basic earth card & paying no annual fees, they've decided to dramatically reduce the points earning rate. Think I'll be moving to the velocity flyer card.

Well that is the final reason to get rid of this card. It was good while it lasted and you have to wonder why Westpac would ruin a satisfactory product?

The funny thing is when I rang to cancel they tried very hard to get me not to and went into a big spiel about how great the card was and what a great annual fee deal I had, not sure they can make their mind up on this card!

Is the Altitude black any better? They offered me that one instead.
