Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Result: 50K bonus in QF account 1 month from the actual application date. Applied 28 Nov in the branch. 51,278 pts into QF account 28 Dec.

To get 1 year free, branch advised to deposit $100 into savings account to qualify as existing customer. Req'd spend as soon as card arrived. Of the $2,600 spent, still have to wait for last 1400 points - interesting as the req'd spend was all on the same day. Will cancel once those in account. From the savings acct, I have withdrawn $90 leaving $10 in there just in case.

Is there a minimum earn cost? Say $75k+?

Yes, but not enforced. May help to ask for minimum credit limit of $15000 during application.

Applied in branch. Savings account & cc.

Not impressed that the savings account has only 2 options:

1) $2k per month for fee free
2) $50 per month, but no cashout to earn interest. EACH withdrawal is $2.50.

I chose option 2.

Conditionally approved for the altitude platinum cc.

I'm about to do the same thing very soon but I'm not sure if this is true. People have signed up for the Reward saver which charges nothing monthly in fees and requires no minimum balance or deposit. Then you use that to apply for the card and be eligible for the fee free Altitude Platinum or Black CC.

I will look at the info and online banking to chq ( ;) ) what the account name I actually have opened.

Reward saver is fee free with no deposit required.

Reward saver is the account I opened. $2.50 per cashout!

Expensive indeed, just don't use the acc. It's essentially $2.50 to do anything with it, hence why it's free.

Got rejected for the Black Altitude card. Not sure why but got accepted previously for the ANZ Black. Passed all the initial tests and then got rejection. Is it still suitable to apply for the Platinum or has my credit limit just taken that hit?

Your best bet will be calling them and ask for a reconsideration, if it doesn't work then check whether they can put you on the platinum card, doubt the system will approve you after declining you for another card that recently.

Yeah i'm gonna try give them a ring tomorrow. I shouldn't have any problems with the limits but I have heard Westpac are a bit funny. The last card I signed up for was the ANZ which was a year a go so credit records should be great.

No luck over the phone. I asked the reasoning for the initial eligibility and then rejection and they couldn't give a clear response other than 'general' rejection. Couldn't give any more detail than that. Assume it's just Westpac lending criteria being different.

Did you insist on getting a manual review? The credit card team do have the power to override the system if there's a good case. They would never tell you why it was declined to avoid getting into legal issues (not sure the team can even see the rejection reason anyway).

I specifically asked to speak to someone who could go over the application with my reference number as well as the details of the application including reassessment/reconsideration however the person I spoke to kept saying its a general rejection and they couldn't do anything about and asked whether I had any other enquiries. Seems they just wanted to palm me off.

My plan is to go into a branch tomorrow and see what I can do, otherwise I'll give them another ring. Reason is if I can't secure this card, I'll probably give the BankSA/StG card a go which bonus is ending tomorrow.

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Hi
With the current offers on meeting the qualifying spend could be a challenge (Westpac + ANZ + Amex all times 2 applications = ~$13k). Does anyone have any tips on meeting these? Do Utility Bills, Body Corporate fees, BPAY payments etc count towards the spend?

What about the purchase of Wish Cards, Gift cards etc?

Cheers in advance

Gift cards are always what I would recommend.

Then prepaying all of your bills - electricity, rates, gas, phone, body corporate, insurance etc.

Of course this is a limit. I currently have around $10,000 in pre paid gift cards waiting to be used. They can often be used more easily than you think. I spend around $1000 of Coles prepaid mastercards in BKK recently and the exchange rate was close to what I could have got for cash.

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Hi

Apologies if this has been discussed before but is it better off getting this card with the 50,000 Westpac Altitude program points or 50,000 Qantas FF. From what I can see, the Altitude program could provide better flexibility but the conversion rates to FF programs don't see great (plus you can't transfer to Qantas).

Advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
