Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Wouldn't Moorabbin or tyabb have been the logical second airports for Melbourne? 2 airports on the west side of the city connected by the better freeways were never going to coexist with any success.

AVV already existed. It wasn’t built to serve passengers, just used opportunistically. It probably helps to keep MEL in check.

That aside in the time JQ has been operating from there Geelong itself has added 100,000 people.

Like Bankstown in Sydney, AFAIK the runways are too short for commercial jet ops. So not going to happen.

Besides, MEL has room to expand - so hardly any argument for a second Melbourne airport (besides the existing AVV).
Its not so much MEL's capacity... Just MEL is so far from the south east corridor. I know its not going to happen, just one of those wish they did it in the south east/east corridor instead kind of thing.

That would be discriminating against rural people who need to get to the City.

Or connect internationally
Or connect domestically . When I fly from Armidale to, say, Perth then I should not have to change airport and traverse the whole of Sydney.

Such suggestions to move all regional flights out of SYD are from folks who think Sydney is the destination for everyone regional. This is definitely not true.
