Going from Central Coast to SYD requires using the M2 and Sydney Harbour Bridge, which gets very crowded during morning and evening peak, whereas M7 would have lighter traffic, which means those from these areas to WSI could end up a faster ride than travelling to SYD.
If going to SYD from North Shore common sense would be to take the Harbour Tunnel and not the Harbour Bridge and once the Western Harbour Tunnel open in 2028 then you can also connect straight to the M8.
Also there are easy PT options from central coast - train from Gosford to Central, then train from Central to SYD. There would be more PT steps to get to WSI.
Hills and Hornsby also have easy metro/train combo to SYD.
