West End Theatre Tix

Cove, I just checked a random date in October for tickets. They seem to be around $2,000 each for decent seats. The whole Hamilton thing has got to be like Dutch black tulips in 1600. And, when Ham wins the Tony this year, it will only get worse. I'd sign up for emails for any release of tickets.

I actually went to the Lyceum theatre this afternoon to see what tickets were available for tonight's performance of The Lion King.

They showed me seats up the back and I insisted on their best seat. He looked at me in my shorts, t-shirt and scruffy hair and beard, and then pointed to the stalls and said they're expensive. Again, just show me the best seat!

It was near the front to the left side, my preference, and for £125 I was very happy with it. Just a pity they judged me on my tourist mode not my credit card balance.

Still I loved the show.

Heh. I get that all the time. It infuriates my wife no end and usually starts another lecture and the kids complaining about my crocs :)

We saw Lion King in New York and it was excellent. However, some friends who had seen it in both said West End was nowhere near as good. I was repeatedly warned about seeing Wicked anywhere else other than Broadway as it will disappoint. My biggest disappointment though was "Mamma Mia" (saw on Broadway). As a big Abba fan, I couldn't wait to see it and it was terrible. We paid $280ea and the seats were so tiny your knees were hitting the person in front and that was the highlight. A musical with a cast of average singers is an epic fail. We had seen a graduate performance the year before which had double the set and stage crew and 10 times better singers and cost about $50.

It's like Matilda for example. London was great to hear the natural British accent but they needed a backing track as the singing for the whole cast wasn't as good, but the acting was better and the theatre was excellent. New York was a lot more polished performance but a little emotionless. Sydney was the best singing, a lot more natural and they had slightly "stralya-ised" it but the theatre majorly let them down (common with Australian performances).

So Hamilton is coated with unobtainium in New York. You realize there is a bit of loose money floating around to get ticket prices so high.

Now in order to get to utilize the West End tix I buy I first need to get from LHR to Park Plaza Westminster with a shoot load of bags - tube not an option- best suggestion? Taxi / car service? TIA

We use City Carriage for transfers 020 7790 9400 for Kamal. They are [email protected]
Now if you have many many bags get them to know that a furniture van with quad wheels and strengthened body will be needed.(My little joke)
We are usually picked up in a Mercedes or BMW as we have two or three main bags so they squeeze it in. They can get you a van if you are travelling with a princess or two.

How about the HEX to Paddington and then a taxi? It would be a lot quicker than a car from LHR and the tickets can inexpensive if purchased in advance.

I have been told trains are not an option - and I always do what I am told!

You are a wise person listening to your Princess. Our journey tends to take us past Harrods and Harvey Nichols.

Oh good grief - please keep that kinda thing quiet cove.

So you flyng over to have dinner with us at Olive Tree next Tuesday mate?

No CE we are in London assessing shows that you could consider.
Fantastic mate - we are there 4nts so 4 shows - Cruiserette gets to choose 2 and I get to choose 2 - apparently I chose Kinky Boots and Beautiful - Cruiserette yet to choose her 2.

Of all the shows I have seen in the past 13 months, Beauriful has been the best. I loved Carol King and the references to the era are very amusing. I saw it in NYC.

I'm so pleased to see this, gmoh! I'm taking Mum to see Beautiful in August since she loves Carol King and it's our big splurge night out for the trip :D

Not quite West End but we just got front centre tix to "Singing in the Rain" in Sydney for August. My favourite movie, I hope they don't ruin it. Raincoats Provided :)

I'm just back from London.

Musicals:
"Aladdin" is going to be a blockbuster! It's a big production with great staging, music, colour and terrific special effects. It got a standing ovation half-way through the first act. Quite a knock-out production.

"Funny Girl" is also stellar. A great production and the first time back in London since 1966. The stand-in for Sheridan Smith (currently taking a break) - Natasha J Barnes - is sensational.

Comedies:
"The Comedy About a Bank Robbery" has to be one of the most unusually staged shows I've ever seen. And pretty funny too. It was a huge hit with the audience.

"The Play That Goes Wrong" is another spectacular production. I don't know how the actors survive it each day!

Kinky Boots last night was just spectacular - I literally cried through most of second half - mixture of laughter and emotion - if you get the chance to see it do not miss it. Beautiful tonight.
