Weirdest item you've seen taken as carry-on?

Tonight on a VA2 flight from BNE, again it’s KFC but this time it’s a Family sized bucket of chicken!

The flight attendant half heartedly tried to stop it but as it’s not hot liquid open, didn’t have any recourse with the pax 😂
Also it’s hard to ditch something that’s identifiable as the per-passenger meal on Air Tonga …

Back to the topic at hand, when my better-half was QF Platinum she took me on board once.

Rice cooker out of HND > PVG. I know they get checked in but carry on was a new one.

Didn't witness him trying to stuff it into the overhead, but did see him at the lounge.

In the eighties I flew from DWN to ADL with a foam esky filled with frozen prawns in dry ice. No body batted an eyelid.

Used to see the crispy creme brigage a lot when they opened an outlet in MEL and weren't common in many parts of AU, and yes @jb747 damn annoying when they spread the boxes out in the overhead lockers and insisted no body else could use the lockers in case their doughnuts were crushed.

I've also seen someone come on board with a couple of huge bunches of cut flowers and took up a whole.locker

When I used to go to Darwin for work I had to pick up a couple of foam boxes of Barramundi for my boss

Inflatable life jackets are probably the strangest thing I've carried on board. Having to explain to Brisbane International security every time why it is possible to take an inflatable life jacket as carry on when flying to Honiara or Munda/Gizo became tiresome. Usually they would freak out and call the airline.

Prepared to help FAs wash the carpet in-flight when one of VAs "pets allowed onboard" has an "accident" 🤔

😉
Good one!

#2. While working in China in the mid-2000s, domestic flights often did not have seat allocation (or priority boarding) so you had to fight hard for a seat at all, especially an aisle or window. Hand luggage space was a premium always but, particularly between TAO and PEK, during soft shell crab season. Box upon box in the overhead, on seats and under them. The locals got mightily annoyed when I moved their boxes off a seat so I could sit down.
Worst nightmare if there is a turbulence and all the live crabs start falling on you and running in every direction. Good thing they aren't carrying spiders or scorpions (which is also a delicacy in some cultures and have seen them selling both in the bazaar of Beijing)

I’ve done my last 4 flights with a mouse trap. I have no idea why it’s been in my laptop bag. No issues with security and no requests mid flight for rodent control.
heading off to CBR to catch the sneaky politicians i see... 🧐 🧐 🧐

I had a bottle of Windex taken from me in MEL quite a few years ago (I was moving interstate and I didn't realise it was in my bag).

Lady at security said "You can only take things you can spray on your body". Now, this was around the time "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was out, and for those who have seen, know that "put some Windex on it" (some kind of skin ailment) was a common phrase of the movie.

I offered to spray it on my arm but she wouldn't play ball. I didn't really care, I just thought it was funny.
This joke is...cancer🤣🤣🤣
Note to self: next time taking Aegean avoid the live goats on board especially when heading out of the restroom

Might have taken half a dozen loaves of bread as carry on once because the bakery was great haha.
Brought In-N-Out burger out of the USA when departing LAX for the entire family to try, burger survived unscathed across the entire flight. i thought was a genius. Safe to say the border patrol dog was not happy but the Border Security cameraman was 🤣 🤣
(Don't worry this is a joke and no Australian wildlife/specimen/livelihood was harmed during the process)
Based on a true story although none of this occured on Australian soil and if I did I wouldn't be posting here cause I'll be public enemy number 1 of 20 million people up there along with the Trump worshipers 😂 😂

Thanks for the VA DG link - about to take my life jacket on a yacht delivery and then fly home. I know co2 cartridges are permitted but useful to have to link. A friend of mine, occasional lawyer and full time pedant, actually found & printed out the rules for QF, JQ and VA so he didn’t hv to argue every time at check-in..

I think the security were implying that the OP was taking the life vest so if something were to occur on the aeroplane she can survive successfully hence it got everyone at airport security "curious" in a bad way:eek::rolleyes:
Your friend must be fun at parties🤣
