Business colleague of mine going back from MEL to BNE yesterday, was seated in 1D. He put his carry on bag in the overhead locker above 2D, sat down and started reading his magazine - only to notice his bag being summarily ejected from the locker and thrown onto 1C. Upon turning around to enquire as to the reason for this was greeting with the response "You reached over me!".

What a wanker.

I'd reply with "and I'll do it again", then promptly put my bag straight back above 2D. :)

WTF?

Out of interest why did he put his bag over 2D when seated in 1D? How is he reaching over 2D if putting bags in 2D?

Quick call the anti terrorism squad!!!

After all we use them to delay a play all because some Jack A$$ wantes to use his laptop for 5 mins more.

What a waste of resources.

The correct reply is "bite me", as you reach over and replace your bag in the locker above 2D.

Any further interference with your bag from that point should be reported to a FA immediately.

Be an asshole. Everyone else is.

I just got off QF636 - 767 MEL/BNE - after reading this post at the QC-B, I started watching PAX boarding - I was in 29F and stowed my bag above me in the centre storage, closed the bin and watched with great interest while PAX shuffled bags, moved others bags etc... in the window storage...

Some people think it's their God given right to have their bag above their head even though they are some of the last to board and are carrying small suit cases (and we all know my opinion on that subject )

I opened my overhead in BNE and my bag was the only one in there  while the side storage was maxed out :)... I had to laugh in hushed tones... To quote NYCguy - I was being an asshole :P and loving it..

You are right there.... well almost. I'd say " Some people think its their God given right to have their bag above their head or any where forward of their seat (but not behind) ...."

Also, I don't know how many times when I've seen people park their kitchen sink over row 4-7 and proceed to the very back of the plane. However sometimes it works in reverse.... once I flew Tiger MEL-ROK and had seats at the back of the plane, and boarded via rear stairs. Noticed a few bags in the o/h locker at the rear, yet no pax on board anywhere nearby. At ROK we disembarked by front stairs only, and a few pax had to hang round waiting for everyone else to disembark before they could go back to retrieve their luggage. :p:p

Similar applies to DJ.. I often take the back row (no PE for me), and often board toward the end - however, for the few people that often sit at the back, I find that because of the rear loading (and the newly introduced fees for checkin) the o/h lockers at the rear seem to be full of bags belonging to those seated more toward the centre... I do move them.

Total rudeness on yesterdays flight where a passenger put his laptop case under the seat, thus taking my foot space. Of course as the flight proceeded I had pleasure in knocking it forward back under his own feet. Of course when he went to nudge it back my feet stayed firmly in place!!

Just tired of people taking more than their share of space - it is limited and courtesy seems to have gone so one has to stand their ground!

Whether by accident or design, with DJ and their new charges will inspire me to board even quicker now so that I get my space sorted as quickly as possible. But where there were problems before with people carrying on the kitchen sink, that problem has now only be exasperated!

I've had that a couple of times lately. Last one was SYD-MEL last week where a woman in front put her handbag under her seat (in my foot spot). I had great pleasure kicking it out of there.

If this was a 737, then its possible that if 1F had already placed his bag in the locker, then there was no further space directly above row 1. On the DF side of the 737, the first section above row 1 is taken by airline "stuff" and not available for passenger use.

Not being critical in any way but as I am usually seated in the first row of economy and being one of the last to board I expect my carry-on bag to be in the overhead locker above me or further forward. No a God given right but a reasonable expectation. There is no way I am waiting around for everyone to deplane to collect my bag from the back of the cabin. And the FAs have helped out everytime I have asked for assistance.

I am amazed at some of the junk that people bring aboard an aircraft. Have some consideration for your fellow travellers....

Not so much the people that are last to board that bother me. It's the first to board, the most notable one day when I for some reason was in the first 10-15 to board (don't know why - I like boading late) - a guy who was about 2-3 ahead of me in the queue stopped at my row, placed all his luggage directly above and then proceeded about 6-7 rows back. What the? The plane was empty. So when the other 2 pax arrived, between my stuff and twerp's there was no room anywhere nearby for their carry-ons (except perhaps for above twerp's seat).

I think this is part of correct etiquette, one of the unwritten rules of flying. Notwithstanding the below, if you end up placing your hand luggage behind you then don't even think about pushing through through the flow of passengers trying to disembark at the other end, just so you can get your luggage. Tough luck. Stay seated and wait until people have left.

I completely agree. I'd like to see Qantas crack down a bit on carry on luggage.

Isn't it a case of share the space?

I really don't like the way, that more and more, air travel in Australia is beginning to look like air travel in the US (carry-on sinks et al).

I witnessed a classic situation on an AA domestic flight once. I boarded early as is always the case for AA flights and took my seat in the F cabin. Another passenger stopped at the front of F and loaded his multiple bags into the overhead locker and then walked through F and took his seat somewhere down the back.

When the F passenger seated under the now full locker arrived and could not fit his single bag into the space, he asked around the people seated in F if the bags belonged to them. Everybody shrugged and said no. So he removed one of the bags and handed it to the FA saying "I cannot find space for my bag. Can you please gate check this one for me?". She took the bag and sent it to the hold, returning soon after with a hand-written receipt.

Upon leaving the aircraft, the F passenger left the baggage receipt on his seat for the bag owner to find. He had obviously had it happen before!

Classic!

Can someone please try this on a QF domestic and report findings!!

I would not push through anyone trying to get a bag if it was behind me. I have had good success so far in getting my carry on bag close to me. All I do is call the FA over and mention that I am sitting in row 4 and I can't find room for my bag and he/she has always found space very close to where I am seated.
