Just a warning to anyone booking paid F tickets... noticed this tonight - first saver SYD-LAX is showing J seats even if you search for F. They book into C class.

This is old news. This is a step above what it used to be. In the past, you didn't find out until the confirmation page just before you paid.

When you search isn't the option "First/Business"?

Yes it is, but if any leg of a multi-leg trip has F available, it'll show the whole thing as F with the '!' and when you hover over it it says "NOTE: your trip from xx_ to YYY will be in Business Class'.

As per QF's rules, the highest cabin travelled for a booking will be the one that's charged for, so if you do MEL-SIN-LHR and only SIN-LHR is in F, you will still be charged as if the whole thing was in F.

The image is the result of a search for a one-way flight SYD-LAX. It is showing QF11 as a First Saver, but travelling in J. This is a direct flight SYD-LAX, it is not a multi-leg trip. You are also offered a First Saver on QF107, again a direct flight, which doesn't even have a First cabin.

This seems very strange to me. It is not the same as the multi-leg issue.

Ah I see exactly what you are talking about now - I hadn't looked at your original screen capture when viewing the thread earlier - and didn't comment. I just went onto the QF booking site and was able to replicate what you were seeing.

Ah yes point. OK, QF's 'finest' IT at work again I see :(

It's threads like these that show why newbies dont want to post at times, people jump on them saying things like 'old news' and it is known already and go off on tangents without even having a look at the evidence posted by the OP.

Back OT, that is really odd by QF and you have to wonder what they are doing there, has anyone actually checked out what the fare class is?

Books into C class as per my OP. I did take a look at the class it booked into because I thought it was odd.

Note in the screenshot you can see the return flight selection, so it was a return fare search.

No they are separate first and business options on the AU site at least (not sure about the non AU sites).

This has only changed in the past 48 hours or so as I have been watching the prices of First Saver fares closely

I'd suggest it's a Qantas website glitch

You should be able to get F on MEL-LAX for $18k as a first saver, now the cheapest fare is $22.5k

There is heaps of availability and this happens on MEL-LAX for ALL date ranges I have tried, SYD-LAX and on some MEL-LHR via SIN flights

The work experience kid has been busy again!

Thanks for confirming that what the OP and I saw could be replicated by other people. I couldn't give an opinion about the prices as I usually do not look at F fares to LAX. I will try to PM RedRoo to see if they can find out what is going on.

Just found a second "glitch"...

SYD-LHR/SYD-MEL-LHR/MEL-SYD-LHR/MEL-LHR in Y are coming up for April 2013 as $1900. BNE-MEL-LHR/BNE-SYD-LHR (no BNE-SIN-LHR due to the EK agreement) are coming up as $3200.

And your reasoning as to why it is a glitch?

Normally BNE-LHR is similarly priced to SYD-LHR/MEL-LHR. You can book a BNE-SYD or BNE-MEL return + a SYD-LHR/MEL-LHR return separately for a tonne less cash right now.

That is fine, but what are the fare rules of the fares you are looking at. That may give you a reason as to why it costs as it does.
