Qantas unveiled the special Wallabies livery today on the A380 that will take them to the world cup. I've often wondered what arrangements major sporting team make for international travel. Obviously Qantas are the major sponsors for the Wallabies so travel will of course be a part of that agreement; but do they book seats on regular commercial routes or do they charter flights?

The Wallabies are playing a match in Chicago next week and then flying on to England for the world cup. I wonder whether they're chartering the A380 to take them all the way; what will the plane do once it drops them off in Chicago? Does it fly off to do a couple of commercial routes before returning to Chicago and then flying on to London? Or are they just booked on the upper deck of QF11 before transferring to an AA flight to ORD?

Which also makes me think, if it is a charter flight, do you think the passengers get points and SCs?

You can earn SC's and points on charter flights, it just depends on who you work for and what arrangement they have with Qantas.

I can't see the wallabies justifying a whole A380. team squad of about 35, double that with support staff plus allowance. Maximum 100 people to move.

Does anyone know who won the Wallabies livery competition? Has that been announced?

Interesting...I wonder why the registration isn't on the nose gear doors as it normally is?

But maybe with the reduced load it could make it all the way to ORD?

The earlier linked photos, from the SYD watcher group, said it flew as QF7. Were the wallabies even on the flight, they didn't stay in Australia for the John Eales medal last night?

The Wallabies were in Sydney for the John Eales medal. Qantas are unlikely to leave the plane on the tarmac though waiting for the Wallabies to be ready so they've sent it to DFW and back in the mean time

You're (well a tiny percentage) airfares at work. I'm not sure what a Wallaby is but does a fat plane suit their image?

Matt

I hope the decals/transfers don't come off as easily in flight as they did when the workers realised the image was in the wrong place and had to move it closer to the front.

From 29 seconds to 39 seconds of the video.

Also you see the registration being either removed or covered.
