Waitlisting V Certainty

Going to attempt to convince the wife that transferring points from VA to SQ is the best way to use them to get to Japan next year.
I don't have quite enough to make it both ways, but if I move some to SQ that will leave enough in VA to another domestic J return trip for me at some point.

I know moving them to SQ will cost me more out of pocket, but the difference in points used compared to burning them through VA is substantial.

Assuming she does agree with me, am I better served by Waitlisting PER-SIN-NRT J seat which puts us on an A380 for SIN-NRT, or do I just accept a slight downgrade and take the guaranteed seat on the 777?

I know waitlists can clear pretty comfortably before flights, but that A380 will be going on to the US and may be quite popular. I don't want to be biting my nails just weeks before we're going hoping those seats will open up. And I don't want marital issues if something goes wrong there.

You can waitlist your first choice first, then use the points to book your backup, and do a change by phone for a modest fee if your waitlist ends up clearing.

That said, I don't particularly like the A380 J seats.

Thanks Abdul I will keep that information in mind. What don't you like about the A380 seat?
We would be traveling with a toddler under 2yo, so the extra width of the seat and space overall would likely be useful.

After June 1 have you checked if it makes more sense to book the SQ flights direct from you VFF account without transferring? Will be less surcharges. But you can't wait list.

It does get a little better yeah, but SQ availability on the VA website has been so hit and miss lately I don't have that much faith in getting the flights and aircraft I want. The A380 has completely disappeared from VA search engine. Waiting till June anyway just to give myself the option of keeping with VFF.

There has been anecdotal evidence of people succeeding over the phone.
