I cannot seem to get the availability I need in two weeks, possibly because of APEC, not sure.

My question is that I asked QF if they would consider allocating a D class seat for SYD-NRT or SYD-HKg as part of a Circle Asia fare, because there is plenty of J availability, and they said I can only waitlist for D class. Am I wasting my time doing this? Has anyone been sucessful in waitlisting on D class with QF on these routes?

You can waitlist and if they decide to release a seat then you would get it. The likelihood of the list clearing is dependent upon QF and your status

If you need to guarantee a seat , perhaps look at other routes such as MEL or BNE-NRT or other carriers such as JL or CX

Dave

Also, unfortunately, should a D class seat be released some other way - a cancellation or date change etc - there is no guarantee that the res system will put it back in as D class - it may be programmed to return it as J.

Sadly jasonja3 I have to apologise - I have you r seat o on 8 Sep SYD - NRT and I would rather be flying CX on the Sunday morning no - but would have to cancel the whole DONE4 - wish I could help ;)

Have you considered JL/CX?

Thanks guys, I had already looked at alternate carriers and routing, just was wondering what my chance were if I went down the waitlist path with short notice.

The only alternative that suits is to route via CNS, which I was trying to avoid (being a seat snob I suppose), but as it turns out, SYD-CNS-NRT will earn 200SC which is not bad, which means SYD-CNS-NRT-KHH/TPE-HKG-SYD-BNE-SYD earns me 580SC for my circle fare. Not bad for 5 days.

What's wrong with having a Dreamtime seat for a daytime flight? I would be quite happy to go that way especially if able to get one of the single seats on the 767

Dave

For me the lack of in-seat power and poor IFE would be more of an issue on a daytime flight than an overnight flight - that would make me shy away from a dreamtime seat even more than overnight.

I dont think so - I remember when I was first planning to go to JPN that I had a 763 seat booked and was told there was no inseat power.

They do feature:

B767-300 flights offer 13cm screens, broadcast video and audio entertainment with 10 channels of video entertainment and 12 audio channels.

So no AVOD but not as terrible as I might have hinted.

The features of the Dreamtime seat are liste as:

Selected flights offer our 'Dreamtime Seat', offering five-way electronic adjustment. You can adjust your position for maximum comfort using the touch controls that are in your armrest.

For your comfort, the pitch of the seat is 122cm-127cm (48-50in). The headrest has adjustable ears for lateral support and the height can be varied.

Note: On some international sectors, Qantas may operate domestic or leased aircraft that do not provide the product features detailed above.

No mention of power.

EDIT

Ahh I see it in your link:

* refurbishing its six 747-300s, installing Dreamtime Business Class seats and new seats in Economy, in-seat inflight entertainment, new interiors and enhanced cabin lighting in and PC power in Business Class;

Nothing is wrong with the seats, I just have a preference :D Mind you, I had forgotten about the single seats on the 767's, thanks!!

The additional two hours duration is a non preference also.... but if it gets me there...........

Dreamtime seats are very comfortable for a daytime flight. Heck, its not that long ago that we used to look for Dreamtime equipped aircraft for 14-hour Trans-Pacific overnight flights ... how times have changed.

No in-seat power with Dreamtimes.

My biggest complaint with the 767 version of the Dreamtimes is that the IFE screen was never upgraded when they did the upgrades on the 747 fleet of Dreamtimes, so they are now very old technology, small, low resolution and not bright enough. So I would be taking my laptop with spare battery which would last me about 8-9 hours of watching DVDs.
