Waitlisted on CX - what does this mean in reality?

I'm due to fly HKG SYD on Thursday night but there's no confirmed availability on CX for the 7pm departure (preferred) or any others that night, according to my TA. Even the morning departure on Friday is the same. I've been told I'm waitlisted on the 7pm and Friday am departures, but does anyone know from experience what this actually means? Do I get a phone call or email on the day to let me know if it's cleared, or do I need to head to the airport and wait it out?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

In my experience they will sort it out up to 24 hours prior and will ring or email new itinerary or it will appear confirmed in Manage My Booking. If you dont see anything change 24 hours out, then i would be ringing them.
