I'm looking for anyone with recent! previous experience in getting a new VWP stamp after being in Canada.

My husband and I (stupidly) didn't do our research on the rules of Canada not resetting the VWP. We will have been in the USA for nearly 70 days before heading to Canada, we aren't travelling there in the hope of resetting the VWP, we had already planned to go there to visit a friend and participate in a sporting event. We will then want to re-enter USA for some more sporting events before leaving for Europe, which we have flights booked for. However we would need to leave sooner based on the rules saying time spent in Canada counts towards the current VWP.

Has anyone had experience with being restamped? We have proof that we will be leaving and that we were in Canada for an event plus have events in USA to attend. We aren't trying to game the system just didn't read the rules properly.

If we can't get the stamp we will have to fly to Europe earlier. Alternatively my husband entered USA after me and can stay a few weeks longer so I am considering leaving and coming back, however I'm not sure if that is risky and whether they will thinking I am trying to live in the USA if I only leave for a couple of days/a week.

Thanks for your help!

From my reading you'll be allowed back in but if you overstay the 90 days that will be problematic for future entries. I'm also here at the moment and probably want to stay more than 90 days. I'm looking at leaving after 60 days to go to south America for a fortnight in the hope it will reset my 90 days without looking too suspicious.

Two days in Bermuda was enough to reset my 90 days. They don't care how long you leave for.

Welcome to AFF, Sienna_G :)

I've never asked/tried it but I'm pretty sure the US Authorities will not care about the circumstances of your trip to Canada. If you go to Canada then re enter USA and stay beyond the 90 days then you will have over-stayed, and that will have consequences (sorry).

You will have to weigh up the cost of a quick side trip to the Caribbean (cheapest) Vs your having to leave for Europe earlier.
