I have a voucher that expires march 27. Does this mean I have to book by this date or do I have to actually have completed the travel on the itinerary by that date ?

http://www.qantas.com.au/travel/airlines/voucher-terms-conditions/global/en

Vouchers issued on or after 12 December 2012

General Terms for both Qantas Gift Vouchers and Qantas Customer Care Vouchers

Additional specific terms apply to each voucher, please see below.
Redeemable for one-way or return Qantas domestic or international flights departing Australia only.
Non-refundable and cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Award or Any Seat Award bookings or redeemed for cash or other goods or services such as additional baggage or seat selection.

Only one voucher can be redeemed per booking.

Amounts are in Australian dollars and are valid for bookings made on or before the expiry date stated on your voucher.

If the total of the booking is more than the value of the voucher, immediate payment of the balance will be required at the time of booking.

The names of voucher recipients may be changed when you redeem the voucher.

The Qantas Conditions of Carriage and relevant fare conditions apply to all bookings made with a voucher.
Qantas Customer Care Vouchers - additional terms

If the full balance of the voucher is not redeemed in one transaction and the balance of the voucher is $2 or more, a new voucher with the same expiry date will be issued for the unused portion. Subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address supplied. No subsequent voucher will be issued for amounts less than $2.

Only one person can be booked at a time.

Vouchers can be redeemed online at qantas.com/yourbooking or through Qantas Contact Centres on 13 13 13. A booking fee applies to redemptions through Qantas Contact Centres.
Qantas Gift Voucher - additional terms

Vouchers will be valid for 12 months from date of issue.

If the full balance of the voucher is not redeemed in one transaction, a new voucher with the same expiry date will be issued for the unused portion of that voucher. Subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address supplied for the first adult listed on the voucher. If no email address is supplied for the first adult listed on the voucher, subsequent vouchers will be sent to the email address of the person who purchased the voucher.

The number of people on a booking redeeming the voucher must be equal to the number of voucher recipients. The number of recipients listed cannot be changed.

Vouchers can be redeemed online at qantas.com/giftvouchers or through Qantas Contact Centres on 13 13 13. A booking fee applies to redemptions through Qantas Contact Centres.

thanks but the situation I don't quite understand is and sorry all if I'm reading this wrong but if voucher expiry is March20 say , I can use that to book a flight for say travel April 1 to 10?

Once it's in a booking I would be able to Change dates but not cancel it again to use for a different route?

Or does a voucher from a cancelled booking have to have all travel completed by the voucher expiry date ?

Correct, the ability to change routings etc will be determined by the fare conditions associated with the type of ticket you purchase. But as stated above non-refundable and cannot be used for multi-city, Classic Award or Any Seat Award bookings.

You could book any available QF flight(s) departing from Australia provided the booking is made before the voucher expiry date.

Your example of March 20th, 2014 expiry date would allow you to make a booking on the last date (March 20th) and it means QF flights could be booked 353 days forward from there - up to Mar 8th, 2015.

Voucher would become worthless on March 21st, 2014.

You could change date, or change to a different flight (change fee applies) but you cannot extend the date of the voucher. The original expiry date (purchase date + 12 months) applies.

100% correct

Mods: this thread should probably be merged with the existing thread on Gift Vouchers (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....-qff-points-per-gift-55955-19.html#post947656)

The OP is presumably talking about a flight credit voucher, NOT a gift voucher, and the rules are very different, specifically:

Qantas Credit Vouchers can only be redeemed on bookings:
Where the new fare amount (which excludes carrier charges, fees and taxes) is equal to or higher than the original fare and the conditions of the new fare are met;
Departing from the country in which the original booking was made; and
Where all travel is completed 12 months from the date your original booking was created.

What type of bookings cannot be redeemed with a Qantas Credit Voucher?
Bookings with a lower value than the credit voucher value.
Bookings where travel has commenced, for example, for an upgrade or additional fares.
Multi-city, round the world and Jetstar bookings.

Sorry OP I read your response incorrectly in post #3 3rd paragraph. Long day at the UFC.

Can a voucher be used on a booking mostly on QF that includes non-QF legs? e.g. ADL-LHR QF, LHR-LIS BA

That document is not clear on it.

So in the end i received this about it:

Dear Mr,

Thank you for your email,

On International tickets the rule is slightly different. As long as you book your new International itinerary by the expiry date of your ticket it is OK. The ticket would then need to be re-issued which would give you another 12 months validity. For further information regarding change of fares please call our 24 hour Service Centre on 131313.

Kind regards

What i am now stuck in is that it was a J ticket to LHR on a good Sale 6999, but they all around $8500 now, i have 4 weeks to make the decision, do i wait for a sale or book now, i know its the age old question on here of when a sale is going to be, other than the usual valentines day companion sale i don't really recall there being a huge one around this time usually?

Another question about QFA vouchers: how do infants factor into the numbers? For two adults and a baby, do I need to buy a voucher for two people or three?

In response to my own question: yes they can. Red Roo confirmed this was possible and CSR 2 processed it after some 'checking with their supervisor'.
