Phone calls can be pretty costly and I wonder which VOIP products offer free or near-free calling to land lines and maybe mobiles too. I have relied on my skype calls PC to PC but it doesn't give flexibility one would need.
A friend mentioned Voipbuster and I will be checking it out shortly.

Be sure to check out http://maxotel.com.au/. In particular, their "Whirlpool" plan
Maxotel Announcements & Whirlpool Offer - Voice over IP.

I've been on it for years. Its a pretty good and reliable service at a low cost.

The plan I'm on (and I think is still available) offers:
10c for untimed landline calls
14c/min for mobile calls
No monthly fee, no minimum calls etc. Just pay what you use

I have ozemail's "BOB" at home, and on a 2 yr contract with voip phone. All local and cell phones free, and it cost me 5c per minute to call cell phones in the USA which i regularly do. roughly $2.50 for 40mins.

I’ve used Skype’s subscriptions to the USA for making calls to there incredibly cheap, but it’s not free.

What do you mean by Skype doesn't give the flexibility one would need?

I find Skype to be perfect for all my needs. I wonder what you want to do on there but can't? The rates are also incredibly cheap.

When I'm travelling I use Skype as well with no issues. I just buy a block of Skype credit and top it up when I need to. As blueflamenco said, the prices are quite resonable as well.
There's a time limit of 180 days from the last call - if you don't make another call within that 180 days the credit will expire, but I've never gone that long without using it.

I've been using VOIp at home for a few years now, and gotten quite a few family members and friends onto it as well. Can't beat 60 untimed called for $5 a month to 30 countries.

I mainly use MNF (MyNetFone) as they have a reliable service.

They also have a softfone that works well on my laptop. It seems to get thru hotel firewalls better than other programs. Comes in hand to make calls home on my account - basically for free.

Another handy feature is the option of ANI call back or to call a number that u've added into your profile and then be able to make a call charged to your account.

Once you've gone VOIP you'd never go back to timed calls with flagfall

Besides MNF, I also have used pennytel from my iphone. There are literally heaps of VOIP providers, have you checked out the Whirlpool forum?

Hi - I'm using VOPIUM from both my IPhone and a Blackberry phone. Great service and ability to use (even cheaper/free) Wifi calls.
