Virus Outbreak on Cruise Ship

And I bet they'd still have to quarantine further in Aus even if they'd quarantined somewhat in Amsterdam.

According to media, they will even have to do a second quarantine when they leave the WA quarantine and return to home state.

Also the crew have to quarantine for many weeks (finding volunteers was allegedly one of the reasons the rescue flight was delayed)

I think the plans changed at the last moment. The Spanish govt wanted the pax out of Tenerife by Monday evening to appease Tenerife...the rescue flight arrived at Tenerife too late....so the pax were sent to Netherlands to meet the deadline, and the rescue flight is now flying to Netherlands to pick them up to bring them back to Australia ( if you count Perth as part of Australia ;) ). There were never any plans made for them to stay in Netherlands for their 3 week quarantine.

But why put people on a 20hr flight to then quarantine in WA? Why not just quarantine in NL? Other than the stress of if I have this, I would be fine to stay in a hotel (with a balcony) or airbnb for 3 weeks and just deliver food and drinks, as long as I have washing facilities. I dont understand if its that dangerous, why put people on international flights with crews

Yes. Good point. And a couple have become very ill during the flight.

The British parachuted 'medics' onto Tristan da Cunha to provide urgent medical care after one of the passengers from ship fell ill on the island.

Not the flashiest video quality ever but it certainly shows how dangerous the drop was.
