A few weeks ago a work colleague had to travel up to Darwin and back in 24 hours.
Late night flight up to Darwin overnight, work all day and back on a flight just after 1:00am.
Work finished about 6:00pm and thought they would select themselves a window seat for the return flight, this is when they discovered that they couldn't select a seat.
The booking reference was correct it brought up the flight and time but couldn't select a seat.
So they rang Virgin Australia and asked them what the problem was, turns out the customer who booked the flight actually booked the flight for the same date the following year.
So after paying the change fee they eventually got the flight they wanted.
The booking was last minute and the Virgin website allows you to book 366 days in advance, so I am not sure if this such a good thing to have the booking window open so far in the future.
So I guess if you can't select a seat for your flight that you think is in 14 days check the date for your flight.
Another work colleague was over in New Zealand over the weekend and were on the early morning Qantas flight back to Brisbane, well that plane broke down so Qantas put a booking onto Air New Zealand, for the 9:30am Air NZ 777 flight, they are currently Qantas Gold(requalified) and took the Virgin status match as I suggested and so was able to use the Air New Zealand Koru Club lounge, the lounge had a good range of food compared to the Qantas lounge.
