Read a news article on the 7th August that said Virgin is to cancel flights to Bali and replace it with tiger air. Does anyone know when this to take effect. As I have booked business class from December 23 and presently tiger from Perth doesn't even fly direct. Very concerned that my Xmas vacation could turn into a nightmare.

This is already being discussed in a couple of other threads however you'll be fine, the transition to Tiger won't happen until late March 2016. I'd be more concerned about the volcano at this rate!

Trying to book a trip from MEL to DPS in a couple of months.

Virgin as above, are now shifting the MEL-DPS (and PER / ADL ) routes to Tiger. Flying as TT1 TT2 and TT8 DPS-MEL-DPS

Flights haven't started yet, so It's hard to trust Tiger's on time performance and reliability on those routes. Although they are going to be run by Virgin, the Virgin website doesn't allow interline / codeshare on Tiger, " * All flights listed above are operated by Virgin Australia International providing a Tigerair Australia service and are subject to regulatory approval "

I don't trust the reliability of Tiger to get me anywhere until the landing gear comes down and we're on approach.

Choosing MEL-DPS or SYD-DPS (where there is a direct flight) sends you either around Australia to Sydney or Brisbane, or from Melbourne to Singapore on SQ. It's odd that they wouldn't codeshare on their own subsidiary and keep the revenue in the greater business. Qantas / Jetstar do this.

If you've got a extra half day and in no rush. It's cheaper to go via SIN on Scoot, then onto JQ to DPS for SG$50 - $100 depending upon the day. Plus it's tempting to have a stopover in SIN for shopping.

Virgin have a special offer for Velocity points on Tiger, they don't mention costs, so I'll call tomorrow and find out. Some of the DPS-MEL flights are only $120 AUD so might be a complete waste of Velocity Points.

Garuda? They use a more suitable A330 - so there's more room to walk around for a stretch - and more toilets.

Disappointing. Was looking forward to using VA on trip early next year. Will prob fly Garuda now. No chance in hell of me taking Tiger. There's a big market out their for people tired of LCCs.

Agreed. There is no discount at which I'll fly an LCC. I fly for fun, and will pay to enjoy it. It's their funeral.

That's really disappointing news. I quite like my long weekend in Bali, and I'm damned if I'll do it on Tiger.

Ended up booking on VA using Velocity points from MEL-BNE-DPS and returning same.

Virgin Australia website routes you through SYD or BNE from MEL or SIN via Singapore Airlines codeshare then onto DPS via Silkair or SQ mainline (Via SIN $1200) . But not on the (Virgin Owned) Tiger TT flights ex MEL. It adds a few hours to the journey, but I had to leave after 11am, so the earlier direct flights weren't a option. Booking MEL-SIN-DPS return was tempting, around $1200+ inc a stopover in SIN if you want.

The Tiger TT flights weren't a option due to timing for me. But they are pretty cheap, at $119 - $169 a pop. (No on time performance data yet - they start Feb March ?)

Other options MEL - DPS (Bali) are Jetstar / Garuda / AirAsiaX (Direct of via KUL) / and Qantas-Jetstar via the QF website.
