For most airlines the standard order of service for a row is window passenger first, then back towards the aisle.

A flight attendant on a recent Virgin flight told me their rules stipulate that they will serve any women in a row first, then the usual window to aisle.

Wonder if status will trump (pardon the pun) gender?

On a B737 in J, I am not sure if they have a particular order (to serve or to take orders) which they must use? Most often though it is front to back, port to starboard - but I have seen various other permutations including; back to front as well as anti-clockwise 1A to 1K. Given there are only 2 rows and a maximum of 8 passengers the CS might just mix it up to suit their particular bent?

That's interesting. I've noticed some strange differences (aka not consistent) in who is serviced first on board - this might be the explanation!

Once in 1A I was offered last - 2D PAX was first then rest of row 2 followed by 1D/F (no-one in 1C). During an idle chat later on with the FA I found "2D" was a "The Club" member.

Took 5 Virgin biz flights in past fortnight and there really was an odd mix of style.

I prefer booking Row 1 but most times they started orders at row 2 that is for sure.

In my decade as a United 1K it was firm policy to always take order based on flyer Status, which on a 747 saw FAs leaping all over the cabin with no apparent method to an observer. :D

As catering is hit or miss these days, with not much wastage loaded, having order taken first is a big plus!

I have noticed this a few times as well, usually when it is a male FA, but like all things on VA it's hit and miss.

The only time I’ve ever not been served in row order have been the times I used points to book or upgrade. The latter because of “limited catering”, the first, well I felt the one other person in business got favourable treatment the whole trip.

I haven’t really noticed to be honest - but have had several instances when seated beside a male pax who gets asked first, the pax has actually gestured to me and suggested I be served first.

I’ve seen this on Qantas a few times and British Airways often. It is traditional.

I couldn't give a royal, er......wave - who gets served first. If a gentleman is seated besides, behind or in front - then he can be served with absolutely no qualms from me.

It's not like I'm starving.

Mostly because I've already made 'em regret putting up the "All you can Eat and Drink" sign in the Lounge.....

You should (TM) this asap.

QF = Consistently Inconsistent
VA = Hit and miss

Sums up domestic airline travel in Australia pretty well I’d think.

You have to add of course:
JQ = Basic
TT = Very basic
but then I’m sure there’s better short summaries of those two.
