Virgin Lounge Food

I'm in the BNE lounge and it appears the trial of a new menu kicked off a couple of days ago. I had the Persian rice salad and a few falafel and it was pretty good, and there seems to be some more variety overall.

VA is collating feedback through feedback forms, crummy pic below (the ability to upload pics at a decent resolution using the mobile app is definitely on my wish list..)

So, i had this on the menu tonight, in the Tuna and Chickpea Salad at the Melbourne lounge
I hope they don't roll this out elsewhere. mentioned it to Lounge staff and VA already)

n.b. it's a rock.

was in the brisbane lounge last night - they had crumbed chicken (real, moist chicken pieces - thighs and drumsticks with bones intact, not processed breast meat) and fried rice, with a sweet chilli sauce on the side. hot, and damn tasty.

only problem was i made a bit of a mess getting the crumb off the chicken (didn't want the extra calories), but still, bravo!

now, if only we could get dessert, or even some individually wrapped chocolate... (sweet calories are fine, of course!)

Tried the darkside for first time yesterday on ADL > MEL after decades in the QB, was very disappointed with the lounge food in ADL. There really wasn't any food other than the basic stuff to make a ham sandwich. Did I simply not see the good stuff, or is ADL not representative of the others.

Was certainly wanting to return to the QB.

I don't rate the VA lounges at all however of those in the cap cities, ADL is at the bottom of the pile imo. It was encouraging to see some more substantial and interesting options being trialled at BNE last week so hopefully the outcome of the trial is positive and this gets rolled out to the rest of the lounges.

Brisbane Lounge This Morning

Hello
I know there is a whole thread dedicated to the lounge food at the moment but...

This morning i flew BNE - MEL. I am not one to complain. But I tell you what. The food was a disgrace. There was a bowl of fruit and some plain yogurt. A Sandwich (Cheese,Egg and Tomato) and a English Muffin (Egg and Tomato).

I took the sanga. The sign said "I'm great toasted" so I decided to toast it. One toaster press. A queue of about 15 people and a full press... waited. Then the sign at the press says, "Leave Me Wrapped" so I did, 10 minutes in the press wrapped, took it out, wow that feels hot.

Got to my seat, the bread was still cold (perhaps it was made then frozen) the egg was rubber and the cheese was still rock hard.

All in all, the food was shocking. Landed in Melbourne and had breakfast in the Melbourne Lounge. if thats your new Menu VA, better make it better!!!! :-(

In SYD T2 it's the pancake machine upstairs and pancakes galore downstairs!

I use the machine to stop me eating too many...

Yep it's a very sad state of affairs in the Virgin lounges for breakfast!

Make sure you never make it to any of the Qantas domestic business (Plat) lounges as the breakfast there puts VA to shame!

Re: Brisbane Lounge This Morning

I also went to have breakfast in BNE the other morning and ended up just getting a coffee as I wasn't impressed with any of the new menu. I'd rather it go back to toasted sandwiches than stay with the new menu.

I haven't had breakfast in the Lounge in about a month. I'm taking a mate to MEL lounge tomorrow at 09:30. It'll be his first visit to a lounge, ever! I'll report back on his opinion of breakfast.

For the record, I really really hope it's improved. Even some Bircher would be fantastic. Anything.

Incidentally, we happen to be flying at 1, so I'll report back on his opinion of the bar too!

ADL is at the bottom of the pile imo.

PER is getting pretty close second to the bottom then - bland, out of a big tin food -machines are often broken or dirty. Makes you realise how much they appreciate their Perth FFs....

Last time I was there at 1130am it was full of rowdy (and getting rather tanked) foul-mouthed individuals many of which were returning from shift and flying back east.

With such *great* food and ambience I have ceased flying out of Perth with VA (unless there is no alternative)

...and to add insult to injury, in PER we even have to ask nicely to get a mini bowl of chips. At least the bar people are generally pretty good and I seem to escape the worst lounge times for the loud drunk mobs waiting for my Friday 5pm service back to MEL.

Agreed PER is not good at the moment, I'm guessing they don't want to renovate it with their new one opening next year!

Was in the Lounge in PER on Wednesday and enquired about my flight to SYD via MEL (I said Tullamarine). I got asked "what's a Tullamarine?" I feel that set a standard for the remainder of my Lounge experience - lack of food and all...

Does anyone know what the brand of the chilli sauce in the lounge at night is? They had it with a stir fried rice on Friday night in Sydney. The sauce was great. For balance, the system then crashed...

But I want more of that sauce.

SYD lounge for first flight out this morning. Nothing new there - same boring fruits, toast etc. Seems they now have a 2nd coffee machine too downstairs.

BNE lounge just as lunch was being put out. No bottles of sparkling water - have to use the tap which does sparkling!

Lunch spread was a Thai chicken curry soup which a guy beside me said was excellent. Pumpkin soup was there too.

Cold there was an odd looking inca berry and beetroot salad, a Mexican potato salad which was quite nice and a big jar of corn chips along with a zingy salsa, guacamole and sour cream.

Id love to see a little sweet bite other than a tiny biscuit. When doing a same day return, I know I'm ready for something sweet to keep me going!

That Thai chicken soup would have to rate as about the best lounge offering VA has stumbled across. For me, it beats the LMPPs, the pizzas and the chicken wings and about the only thing that comes close in my estimation (though for different times of day) is the bircher museli they used to do and the pancake/pikelets they still do. I also miss the swiss chesse they use to offer in the salad bar.
