Found this article from 07.. does anyone know what is happening on this front?

"Virgin Atlantic will become the first airline to fly non-stop from London to Australia after buying 43 new, fuel-efficient aircraft from Boeing.

Yesterday Sir Richard Branson, the airline’s chairman, announced the $8 billion (£3.99 billion) order for up to 43 787 Dreamliners. They will allow Virgin to launch super-longhaul flights to Perth and later to Syndey and Melbourne."

Unlikely to happen. The economics of long haul non-stop flights really aren't there at the moment. Especially not LHR-PER...

I think it will happen but not for a few years. There is a little problem with a 2 year delay on Boeings 787 program.

Last year the market was probably there but the cost of oil would have made in unviable. Now the cost of oil has come down but there probably no market.
