Hi all,

Mates in Brissie and has a ticket to Mackay tonight on Virgin.
When does Brissie close airport?
When does Mackay airport stop receiving flights?
Do you get accom paid for if the flight does not happen?
Paid on Ultimate Amex...anything insurance from that ?

I had a Virgin flight much delayed out of ADL where I would miss my connection in MEL to HBA, the last flight out.

I called them, and was re-booked the next day, and I think $200 travel credit. No accom offered (or asked). I immediately re-booked the Hilton, where had been staying. 15 mins later, on the way there, Virgin called offering me a hotel room. I said I wasn't sure about it (I hadn't heard of it, now where it was); they said, no probs, use it or not, no need to call us.

I stayed with the Hilton, as it was a pretty basic place..

If you come accross this situation again, much of this will depend on the reasons for the delay / cancellation. If it is outside the airline's control, not usually an obligation to provide hotel and meals. If it is within the airline's control, they will normally pay (if there are rooms available).

If you have not left home and you are advised of the delay / cancellation - the airline doesn't have to provide accommodation.

Different rules apply in Europe - even if outside the airline's control they owe you a duty of case (food and or accommodation). But no $$ compensation.
